The ravaging floods, caused by an ice jam on the Yukon River this last Spring, left the Village of Galena devastated. Ninety percent of the homes were left in ruins and over seventeen tons of meat, including moose, fish, duck, and other wild game, were lost. Galena was left with empty, broken freezers. Many residents were unable to fish for salmon over the summer because their boats or fishing nets were lost in the flood. Galena now depends on moose, more than ever to get them through the winter. A weeklong extension for this year's hunt still left Galena twenty-five percent below normal harvest levels. Due to the high water and warm weather, very few moose migrated within reach of Galena residents, which left families unable to fill enough tags to replenish their food cache for the winter. There are no grocery stores anywhere close to Galena. The Village is rebuilding but not their food cache.  

The Alaska Moose Federation (AMF) is an Alaskan Statewide non-profit organization that has a fleet of 13 salvage trucks operated by over 40 volunteers with a track record of over 700 moose salvaged from Fairbanks to Homer in the past 20 months.  With permission and support from the Alaska Department of Fish and Game, AMF is taking salvaged moose to the Village of Galena.  We need your help.  Your contributions go to directly to this cause.  Help feed Galena!
