Special Stars are a group of parent carers of children with special needs in the Hull and East Yorkshire region. They meet twice monthly for an all inclusive play session, the first and third Sundays of the month.
They also provide activities, events and day trips for disabled children and their families. They welcome parents to bring children from 0-13 to sessions no matter what their additional needs may be.
They try to ensure there are suitable toys, mats and equipment for all children to gain enjoyment from. With the help of their members and fundraising in the local community they plan to expand to incorporate additional dates and venues and provide more specialist play equipment for the children that attend the group.

It's funny how charitable organisations suddenly take on a much deeper meaning when you are directly affected by them! Just after his 2nd birthday, our lovely son William was diagnosed as being autistic. Although this didn't come as a complete surprise to us as we had noticed his "differences" for some time, it still turned our world upside down. Special Stars helped us to see first hand that we were not alone, and continues to support us both in terms of talking to others who have been through the difficulties we face and can offer advice, but also by providing a safe environment for William to have fun and express himself in his own special way.

Special Stars, and the driving forces behind it continue to give my family so much support, and I feel the time has come to repay that generosity in some small way.

On August 4th I will be running the York 10k. Not a long way I know, but for someone who struggles to run for a bus these days it is definitely a challenge!

If everyone I know sponsored me even £1 that would still make a difference to the kids at Special Stars, so please answer my shameless plea, and thank you for your support.
