Copper was rescued from the Pound here in Pulaski, TN. He was picked up by a Rabies Control Officer, after repeated calls regarding a wounded stray dog in the area. He had a badly injured leg that was obviously causing a great deal of pain. Our local pound does not provide medical care, so the Giles County Humane Association decided to intervene and end his suffering rather than making him wait until his time was up at the pound.

He was taken to Giles County Animal Hospital, and upon xray it was discovered he had been shot. His front leg was shattered and amputation was inevitable.

Despite the seriousness of his injury, Copper had a bright light in his perky eyes that could not be tarnished, and because of that brightness, Giles County Humane Association decided to try their best to save him.

The amputation was successful, and his stitches were removed within 2 weeks. His recovery time will be approximately 6-8 weeks. Copper will be learning to cope with his new limitations and building up his stamina. He will eventually be able to do most things he could before, just with minor limitation. As anticipated, Copper incurred tremendous Vet bills, and we hope to reduce those costs with the Fundrazr campaign.

Copper has turned out to be a very sweet, very loving boy, and has been placed with a Foster Family, as we felt he would recover quicker in a home environment. He is healing beautifully and continues to improve on a daily basis. He was rather timid at first due to his life of mistreatment, but has become very outgoing and playful, romping around the house with his foster siblings and human pals. Copper's bright light is a daily reminder of why we do what we do, and of all the good we can do for these animals.

Thank you for visiting our campaign and for helping us give Copper a new life!
