My family wanted to rescue a dog so we went to Petfinder.com. We saw there were lab puppies that needed a home from Doggie Doodles Adoption (DDA) so we went to look at them. My family fell in love with our dog Maris. We paid an adoption fee of $250 (which was suppose to include shots, microchip, and spay surgery). Once we got Maris home she would only eat very little. She started throwing up and had diarrhea. She was diagnosed with Parvo, a potentially fatal illness that is common in puppies. Usually puppies get a vaccine to prevent this. We where told Maris had her first round of shots, however I do not think she really had them. DDA refused to help us with the medical cost for treating Parvo and dismissed my warning that two Veterinarians stated Maris was ill prior to our adoption and the other puppies are most likely sick as well. I called animal control and they are doing an investigation now.

Maris stayed 7 days in the hospital. O'Fallon Veterinary Medical Center's (OVMC) staff and Dr. Lindsay did a wonderful job saving Maris' life! They even reduced our bill. However we still owe $1250.00. I would like OVMC to get paid ASAP for their wonderful work. Obviously my family did not expect to pay that much for a dog and we were not prepared. Any amount you could donate would mean the world to us.

I am going to sue DDA in small claims. If I succeed I will donate the money to the ASPCA in order to help other rescue dogs.

Maris is recovering from the Parvo and doing well.
