Yesterday I was issued a court order advising me that I had ten days to hire a child custody investigator or face strict punishments from the court. As most of you already know, the last two years has been quite a struggle. For those of you that don't know, continue reading... July 2010, I was a Tech Sergeant in the USAF and deployed to the desert as a firefighter. When I returned in December 2010 I learned that my wife had decided to move on and had another man living in the house while I was gone. I tried to save the marriage, but it was lost. After she quit returning home at all I finally gave up and filed for divorce in May, 2011. Our case went before a judge numerous times and each time he found something that he didn't like about our agreement that we had settled upon. Then in January 2012 he made the weirdest move...he ordered me to begin paying $1000/month alimony to the noncustodial parent and didn't order her to pay any child support. The issues with my spouse got worse and worse. Drugs, alcohol, false police reports, and completly abandoning me and the girls. FINALLY in March 2012 my request to separate from the military, after 10 years of honorable service, was approved and my four beautiful daughters and I moved back to Oklahoma. My spouse decided to stay in Alaska with her boyfriend. I didn't use my status as a single father to leave my firefighting career in the military. I was FORCED to quit due to having inadequate means to care for the girls. Child care was too much and its not available for 6 month deployments! I LOVED the Air Force, you can ask anybody that I served with...I loved being a mentor and watching the "new guys" turn out to be amazing firefighters. So, for the last few months I have been struggling on living on income that is less than a third of what I made in the military. I can no longer afford an attorney, a place to live, or even food for my daughters. We have been on food stamps for the last month and living with my grandparents. It's been a huge challenge and now this... I have no funds available to afford an investigator. After taxes, travel, basic supplies to live on, and alimony we are left with nothing each month. I have always taken pride in being able to support myself and my family. This is a HUGE blow to me and my self worth. I've never had to stoop to this level before, but I can't afford to lose this battle and face possible jail time. Any help is appreciated. If you have any questions you can email me at tylerkoehn83@yahoo.com Update: Anything raised above the $5000 will be split. 50% donated to the victims of the recent Oklahoma fires and 50% to re-establish the college fund for my daughters. Thanks.
