Benjamin is a three year old bantam silkie rooster. He came to live at Hen Haven Microsanctuary because his previous humans didn’t want him anymore when he grew up and started crowing. Hen haven is a microsanctuary, mainly focusing on chickens, with rescues from both the industry and from (bad) back yard situations. It is run by one person where most of the operating costs, food, vet care, medication + + are paid out of my own pocket. Unfortunately, Benjamin isn’t the only one who needs extra attention, and vet care and health care bills can really pile up. This is why I have to reach out for help this time to get my sweet boy the help he needs and deserve.
Benjamin is a real character, full of mischiefs and funny antics and such a very loving and chatty boy. He loves hanging out with his brother Oliver, checking out (the) girls (he’s definitely not discreet about it either), and having lots snuggles with his human.
A few days ago, while we were having our regular bum check-up and bum-cleaning, his human momma got a big shock. Benjamin’s bum was full of something that almost felt and looked like a mixture of paper mâché and thick layers, upon layers of dandruff. I had to wash his bum many times to get the worst of it off him and inspect his bum who is very swollen and clearly causes pain when I touch it. The next day, all the ‘dandruff’ had come back. I do not know what might be causing these symptoms or how much it will cost at this time, because it all depends on what needs to be done but he is scheduled to see an exotics vet May 16, unless his human can find a doctor to see him before then.
