Last year, I was asked by The Opportunity Alliance (formerly PROP) if I could help solicate holiday gifts for kids who would otherwise go without.  How could I say no?  I put a request out to my Facebook friends to see if they wanted to help and the response was overwhelming.  Together, we raised over $2000 and supplied 31 kids in Portland and South Portland with gifts for Christmas morning.  This year, another lead sponsor had to bow out, leaving a sizable dent in the number of donations to the OA.  This year, the need is 780 children, primarily in Portland, Westbrook and South Portland.
Again, I was approached.  Would we be willing to help again?  I sat there and wondered, could I ask again?  Would people say no?

Today, I am again asking for your help.  I'd like to raise $2500 to help purchase holdiay gifts for 50 kids.  These gifts are essentially the basics; a coat, socks, a new blanket.  Toys are rare, because the needs outweigh the desires.  Thinking about how this could best be done, I decided a PayPal account would be best.  Also, I thought if anyone has a gift for extreme couponing, has a connection with sporting goods, can donate an unused gift, etc, we could really pull this thing together.  Alternatively, when I receive the wish list on November 15th, if someone wanted to sponsor a specific child, that could be arranged.

With your donation, you have the right to see the receipts and account total so that there is no question of my integrity and handling of the funds.  Last year, I purchased most items from Walmart and Toy R Us and had them shipped here, where they were then divided into individual boxes and delivered to OA.  This year, my stepson Josh and exchange student Maria will be earning their Cheverus community service hours by helping with this project.

If you can help, thank you.  If you can't, that is ok.  If you NEED help with this holiday season, message me privately.

The motto at Cheverus is to "Be a person for others".  I have seen that in action time and time again with my friends.  With that said, let's do this!

My love and gratitude,
C
