Please help Ieva Rumpe to start a new life with a Guide dog.
Ieva was 6 years when she lost her sight because of a nerve damage during her head surgery. She still remembers herself being a little girl who just got home after the hospital and realized that she would never come back to the life she had used to have. She can recall learning to walk around her home with her hand feeling the walls she used to see. This new experience was very terrifying and painful. Her loving mother devoted herself to taking care of her impaired child, while drawn apart between work and home.
Today, Ieva is a 27 years old woman. She lives in Riga, Latvia. She never gave up as she graduated a special high school for blind children and applied to a medical college. Ieva graduates this summer and will be a certified physical and massage therapist. But what then?
It is Ieva’s dream to have a job, any job. She dreams to start a family life with her boyfriend. It is crucial for her to operate as an independent adult to have a Guide dog which would allow her mobility around the city, all by herself — after so many years of total dependence on human assistance. A Guide dog would enable Ieva to come outside, to buy groceries, and to commute to work on her own. She would be able to take her future children to kindergarten and school. Simply, doing those ordinary things that other people do every day without giving much thought to it. Things that come so easy to the rest of us.
This spring, a non-profit organization Saules Suns that trains Guide and Assistance dogs in Latvia paired Ieva with her future Guide dog — an amazing golden retriever puppy Cukurs. Training such a dog requires a lot of money, namely, $13,000. Latvia has neither state, nor municipal programs to cover the cost of Guide dog training. Ieva has never seen this kind of money in her entire life. All she can hope for is private donations, be it companies or individuals. Please help Ieva and donate! Donation of any size would be appreciated very much!
