"Pretty Boy" is an ironic nickname given to a Boxer (mix) at the Garrard County Animal Shelter. You see Pretty Boy was used as a bait dog, and there are few things "pretty" about him.
A bait dog is a dog that is unlikely to retaliate- dogs that will retaliate often have their teeth removed. They are confined or restrained with chains, and sometimes hog-tied.
Dogs trained for fighting are set upon them for sport, usually they are killed.
Pretty Boy was rejected by Boxer Rescue for his appearance. He has now been networked, and grown increasingly depressed in a shelter for several months. He now has the opportunity to go to Canada and live with a foster family, until his forever home is found.
Unfortunately when he went to the vet he tested positive for Sarcoptic Mange, and is currently undergoing treatment. Sarcoptic Mange is "scabies" in dogs, and is characterized by intense itching and burning, and can cause hair loss along with other skin ailments unless left untreated,
Pretty Boy needs to be well and healthy to make his journey, and will need to be boarded at the vet following his neuter surgery.
Any contributions to making Pretty Boy well are greatly appreciated.
