A Survivor's Story
She is a survivor... Siri Chittivej Amatayakul. Life has a way of changing and challenging, mostly for the better. Yet, for Siri, the "better" part had essentially turned to difficulty, sadness and tragedy, and now hardship. She is faced with burdening and mounting debt of approximately $2,500 due to lost work from a chronic kidney condition and other health issues. Siri is backed up against a formidable wall. Siri's acquaintances, friends, neighbors, even kind strangers can resolve to turn "tragedy" into TRIUMPH! With help from you ... heroes ... in the making, Siri can be debt-FREE!
Some Background
Siri's family immigrated from Thailand to the United States in 1958, where she grew up as an only child in Denver, Colorado. A the age of 16, Siri moved back to Thailand with family, as her parents were keen on Siri learning about her culture and heritage. She attended the International School of Bangkok her senior year, graduating in 1977. Siri went on to attend UCLA where she earned an MBA in Marketing.Â
In 1981, she returned to Thailand to be with Mom and Dad, securing sales manager positions at a number of hotels. Later on, Siri would land a job with the US Embassy Travel Office. Sadly, not long after, her father passed away from a heart attack. Eventually, the American Express Co. took over the travel office and hired their own personnel. Siri was out of a job. Her father had a small car dealership. Upon his death the family was saddled with debt that needed to be paid. Siri's Mom later fell ill and became paralyzed. Â
Caring for her mother left Siri jobless. All her savings had been used on medical bills due to no health insurance. She began freelancing, tutoring, and doing translation work for government sectors which helped for a few years. About five years ago, extremely high blood pressure left Siri with chronic kidney issues bordering on stage four kidney failure. She continued to work during her initial illness and the blood pressure was under control, but her kidneys were still in danger.Â
 FAST FORWARD To 2020
Somehow, Siri maintained her work and kept afloat for two years. Then COVID-19 struck. Siri was at a loss until she thought of reaching out to the ISB Alumni Association. Through the kindness of Harold Albert and alumni associates, Siri was able to get a studio apartment and have coverage for food and other essentials. This help lasted almost a year until the pandemic made things worse. Now funds have dried up once again. Siri needs fresh food and water to maintain her kidneys.
