PAPERPLANES THEATRE LTD. hasn't added a story.
We are PaperPlanes Theatre, a Kent based children’s theatre company who create participatory performances for children to play, learn, and engage with social morals, lively characters, and the arts.
Way up high drifts the land of the clouds, where houses and gardens and cities float proud. The wind train express brings sunshine and showers and little cloud children pick little cloud flowers.
In our show, it’s no normal day in the land of the clouds, it seems that anything and everything is allowed! The plants are out walking and the mice are stuck still. The fluffy cloud mountain is but a fluffy cloud hill.
What can we do now all is this way, not that? It’s going to require some eager young sparks to grab their thinking hats!
The Man in the Clouds brings together a wonderfully bonkers combination of wacky poetry, exuberant costumes, catchy songs, messy activities, physical comedy and quirky, loveable characters all for the entertainment of little ones. The show will be completely free to see at festivals in Canterbury and East Kent this summer, full details at the bottom of the page.
Thanks to our splendiferous supporters, we are incredibly excited to announce our first stretch goals!
GOAL 1
New Equipment £150
To give us the chance to keep making more awesome work, and give you the best we can out of The Man in the Clouds, we want to invest in some new camera equipment, and an improved website to bring you all of our upcoming news.
GOAL 2
Paying Performers: £450
For their fantastic and patient work helping bring The Man in the Clouds to you this summer, we want to give something extra to our performers. Including King Gustopher and our beautifully talented musician who will be bringing the land of the clouds to life.
GOAL 3
Paying Production Artists: £180
From writing the poems that shape the Man in the Clouds' and Kooky's voice, to designing the land in which they live, we want to give more back to the wonderful artists who have helped shape the show off-stage.
GOAL 4: TBA
Keep the donations coming, and we can start looking to the future!
The Man in the Clouds is a kind-hearted, enthusiastically curious man in a top hat, and on this topsy-turvy day he can’t remember whether to put his shoes on his hands or feet. A keen gardener, he also loves learning from new kiddy-winkle visitors from the ground, and keeping an eye on his dear pal, Kooky.
Kooky is, well, kooky. She is animated and infectiously excitable. Sometimes, she is even so excited, she could blast off into outer space! Impulsively playful, Kooky’s inner child has escaped to her outside and won’t be put back. She is the children’s biggest fan, making her the perfect teammate to guide them through their magical adventure.
Not only do we have fun at the heart of our work, we devise our performances to develop literacy, confidence, and social and mental wellbeing. We achieve this through the use of strong positive reinforcement and enthusiastic encouragement. We provide a safe platform for children to express themselves; no comment is unnoticed, wrong or silly. Infact silliness is always embraced! During our show we want children to be carefree so that they can express their imaginations and explore the wonderful world we have created for them.
We are currently working with the University of Kent as their Graduate Theatre Company. The Man in the Clouds is the first story we are bringing to children in public. We hope to be able to perform many more over the years, but we need your support.
We believe so strongly in the limitless creativity available to young minds and offer an inspiring place for this creativity to blossom. We love what we do and invite you to jump aboard this PaperPlane of wonder and help us achieve our aims by donating, and by sharing this page with anyone you think could want to help.
Here is a quick breakdown of what we're spending. This covers the costs required, but the more money we raise, the better everything can be! Our stretch goals go outside and beyond this, so thank you to everyone who has helped us already, and please continue to share and donate to help us make those stretch goals.
In return for your help we are offering a selection of fantastic perks from postcards and handdrawn posters signed by the characters, to private party events for your child! See our full list of perks at the right of the page to see what we can give you for the support you send our way.
The Man in the Clouds will be coming, completely for FREE, to Canterbury Children’s Festival on the 31st of May and 3rd of June, Herne Bay’s Sci-Fi by the Sea on June 19th and bOing! Children’s Festival at the Gulbenkian Canterbury in the last weekend of August, 27th-28th.
