Hi everyone...and thank you for taking a read!
We are asking for help for our beloved dog Lucy. She is an amazing soul, that is the Zen center of our family. We have been so gifted to have her in our lives, and in the past few years we have been able to share the gift of Lucy with others. Lucy first started visiting senior dementia communities when visiting my mother, and became a regular fixture, spreading joy and smiles everywhere she went. Lucy continues to visit dementia patients, as well as folks in behavioral health units, and has comforted those suffering with the grief of losing a pet. She is a remarkable, loving spirit that loves to share her life and love with people around her.
Lucy started acting a little off on Thursday, and didn't want to eat. We took her to the vet on Friday, and found lots of ketones in her urine. We did a full blood panel, and would wait until Saturday morning for the results. Lucy was a champ, and wagged her tail the whole way through, and gave a few kisses, too!
We got the call Saturday morning. Her labs for her liver values were off the charts. Our vet, Dr. Palmquist, reviewed and told us to get her to the specialty hospital as quick as possible, and to cut no corners...because she could only have 24-48 hours. We got in the car immediately, and rushed to VMSG.
They did an ultrasound, and the news was not good. Lucy's gallbladder was completely blocked, with a "mucus plug". The only was to fix it is surgical removal, as it can rupture at any time. They also saw a large mass on her spleen, which the oncologist said could be cancer, but was optimistic that it could be benign, due to it's large size. The spleen, as well, was on the verge of rupture. Both need to come out immediately, as rupture of either, but especially the spleen, could cause rapid death. The appoinment was set for Monday, as she was stable for the time being, and emergency surgeries can only be scheduled if the patient is not currently stable.
We have an appointment Monday morning with a wonderful surgeon at VMSG that has done surgery on our other dog with wonderful results. We were warned, however, that removing two organs can be an extremely costly surgery, due to the unknown variables of cardiac issues, bleeding and transfusion issues, and prolonged hospitilization. The starting point of the surgery is $5,000.00, over the $1200.00 from yesterday, and will go up from there, possibly to $10,000.00, depending on any complications that arise.
We are asking for help from you, our friends and loved ones, to help us make sure we can provide whatever Lucy needs to get well, and return to the life helping others that she loves so much. Some of you have had the pleasure to meet our beautiful girl, and know how special she is. We have never asked for help like this before, but we just want to make sure that we can provide whatever is needed to save Lucy's life.
We thank you for just taking the time to read this. Any and all good thoughts and prayers are welcome! My kids, Lucy's best friends, thank you. Our cat Jude, who is Lucy's snuggle partner, thanks you. And Moby, our nervous dog who is only calm when Lucy's around, thanks you. Just sharing your kind thoughts and well wishes means so much to our family. We appreciate any and all you can do for our girl.
Thanks and Much Love!
