Last Fall my mother passed away from lung cancer.  Besides her husband, children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren, she had two passions: sewing and the Appalachian Services Project (ASP).

ASP is a community based charity which sends teen and adult volunteers to Appalachia to do home repair projects for poor families. Since its founding in 1969, ASP has deployed over 344,115 volunteers to work for more than 16,169 families in the communities it serves in Kentucky, North Carolina, Tennessee, Virginia and West Virginia.

My Mom was an active participant in ASP for 15 years including the last 9 that she battled lung cancer.  In her last years, even though she could no longer attend the trips, she actively worked with her partners in faith to raise the necessary money to send another group down south.

Through surgery and years of chemo therapy, she tirelessly gave of herself to give to others.  She did this up to her last moments -- still raising money and managing the books to ensure another group could head south to repair homes for someone in need.

Now that she is gone, I need your help to keep her passion alive.  Please join with me by contributing so that her mission can continue.

On May 17, we are holding a 5k Family Run in her memory.  The proceeds will go to the Appalachain Services Project so that another group from South Abington can go down to Appalachia, repair homes, and bring hope to several families.

Please join me on Saturday in the run, or if you are unable to attend, please contribute online.  If nothing else, please share this with your friends so we can spread the word.

Many thanks, her son, Douglas.
