My name is Autumn, and I am the oldest daughter to my mom, Melissa Hathaway.  My mom has always been the person that everyone goes to for help. She has the biggest light about her that has helped her to influence countless people’s lives through youth programs that she has done and coordinated herself, motivational posts, speaking, and just all around being an amazing friend and influence to those around her.  Everyone who meets her immediately knows and loves her and wants to be around her more.  That's just the type of person she is.

She has been a single mother to me and my little brother and sister for 12 years and has been the sole provider of our home during that time.  She had her first grandbaby born in April and has loved spending time with him. One of her favorite things in the entire world is spending time with her loved ones and making people smile and feel cared for.
7 weeks ago my mom started not feeling well. She had slight nausea and pain in her body, but she thought that she might just be experiencing pre-menopausal symptoms. Fast forward a couple of weeks and she started getting weird lumps on her body. She scheduled doctors' appointments and did blood work and nothing was coming up. More lumps just kept appearing.  Her sister, who is a registered nurse pushed her to go and get a CT Scan.  On Monday, November 18th she had the scan done. Our family was shocked as to what the scan showed.
The CT scan revealed stage 4 metastatic melanoma cancer that was taking over her lungs, kidneys, gall bladder, bones, and liver.  Things have been moving fast since then.  Miracles have happened which allowed us to get into an Oncologist the very next day who wanted to start Immunotherapy treatment on Tuesday the following week.  However, on Wednesday she went to the Emergency Room due to head pain and had an MRI done.  The MRI showed that cancer had spread to her brain with 4 small spots. With this new news and how far cancer has already spread the doctor has moved her treatment to start on Friday, November 22nd.
This has been completely heartbreaking to my mom and her family. Her youngest daughter is a Senior in high school.  She is not going to be able to work to provide for her family or pay for her medical bills because of her cancer and the treatments that she is going to be going through. The cancer medicine alone is $30,000 per month and is very expensive even with health insurance.  She also has the stress of her regular bills and providing for her daughter.
At this time we are asking for donations to help cover medical expenses to ease some of this load that has been placed on my mom and our family’s shoulders. Any amount helps. If you are unable to donate please send lots of love and prayers our family’s way.  My mom is a warrior and will fight till the end.  We are very hopeful that she can beat this with everyone's love, faith, and help.
