A desire to bring joy to the infinite masses is the driving factor behind the creation of Joycat 2019. Artist Rebecca Totman feels there is something about cats (especially cats on the internet) that can bring temporary relief to the stresses of life.
Architectural Rendering by Jesus Guerrero

This playful and interactive kitten stands 21 feet tall and represents the untamed creature of joy within us all. Her skin is made up of carefully cut mosaic pieces. At night the light pours through the spaces on the mosaic, illuminating her from the inside out. Arcade buttons on the yarn ball cause the kitten to make various cat sounds and the lighting of the yarn ball and cat eyes to change.

JoyCat 2019 also represents lasting joy through the practice of detachment. With celebration and fanfare this kitty will burn to the ground, freeing us from the notion that joy comes from anything but within.

JoyCat @ Night Concept Art Dustin Rolestad

Artist Rebecca Totman is self financing this project because she feels it must be made. She's seeking funds to help cover the cost of wood, hardware, and transportation.

JoyCat has an amazing team of people bringing her to life including Architect Jesus Guerrero, Sculptor Adriane Dos Santos, Web Master Dustin Rolestad,  Mentor Scott Froschauer, Mentor Jen Moore, Fabricator Steve @ Triumph CNC, everyone at the Art Car Garage helping lighting and power (and way more), Mike Pettengill with moral and physical support, Frank with the day to day, and Carlton camp lead and level head.

The community is growing and there's room for more as we get farther into the build process. Please see www.joycat2019.com for other ways to contribute to this project including helping with the build, and submitting art for the upcoming July art show fundraiser.

Thank you for sharing this project and telling your friends about it.
