Jona Goddard hasn't added a story.
As many of you know, my soul sister, Susette (Suze, as we call her) was diagnosed with breast cancer back in Febraury 2016, and as always, she had to go big with a rare and aggressive form of the beast. I'll share her words as an update to help give a better understanding of what she's dealing with - and what she has already overcome. They told her then she was looking at about 3-6 months to live, and that wasn't the last time she heard those words. Pshhh... they didn't know who they were dealing with!
For those who prefer the Cliff Notes version of things, if such a thing can be accomplished when talking about the cancer journey, here goes, but before we start... Suze has already proven that she's got this monster under control.
Back when she was first diagnosed, she went through a couple of rounds of chemo, and I'll never forget when she said "Jona, this is what's going to kill me. I'm not doing it anymore, and I need you to understand and at the very least, respect my decision to not live whatever time I have left with what this poison does to my body." So she did what a persistent, intuitive, warrior woman does... she started researching. From her home in West Virginia, she weeded through and pulled together a group of healers from across the country. She communicated with all of them on her own and essentially led a collaboration of healing and put together a program for herself that quickly showed results. Her efforts slowed the progression and allowed her to live much more life than the doctors told her was ever possible. As a side note, when she had the original tumor removed that started all of this, the tissue was tested against several kinds of chemo, and what she was being given had a less than 5% chance of doing any good. Her intuition was right. Her journey has been incredibly inspiring to me and many others in her bright circle, and I have no doubt that she will not let this beast be what takes her down.
All of that said, it's an expensive journey, and not one that our insurance community supports, in fact, even through traditional "therapy", cancer is crazy expensive, so she's going to need some help. Through diminishing retirement accounts, private donations and community organizations, she and her husband, Mike (Woody) have been able to start this process, but every bit of funding will help them know that they can continue on. She's currently in week 3 of a 12 week Integrative Oncology program in Georgia that she sought out and that is WORKING. She told me the pain she had been feeling was GONE after just the first few days. There's a very long road ahead of her, and I know that our tribe, whether she's met you in person or not (yet), will come together to support a sister in need. The treatment itself, the housing for her to be away from home, traveling back and forth, the "regular" bills, life, and oh yeah, making sure they can have some meals - all of this can add up to overwhelming stress, and we all know, stress is no good for a cancer patient. Please help us ensure that Suze and Woody can relax into knowing we've got their backs so they can focus on killing the cancer. Your generosity is very much appreciated - and in the words of the band that brought us together - "when you give, you begin to live." So much LoVE to all of you - and thank you.
All funds will go directly to Susette. Let's do this!
