Danielle Boissoneau is Anishnaabe kwe from Garden River, Ontario.  For over ten years, Danielle has presented at universities, city halls, community centres and on the streets.  Her voice has been a way that she has shared her passion, dedication and knowledge of Indigenous Sovereignty with people.

Recently, Danielle submitted an abstract to the He Manawa Whenua Indigenous Research Conference.  Happening from March 5 to March 8, 2017, the conference's theme is Indigenous Sovereignty.  They're talking about movement building and how we, as Indigenous peoples, can affirm our relation to the land as people of the land and the ways in which we can assert authority over our own lives.

Her paper focuses on Grandmother Knowledge (Nokomis Gikendamowin) and the ways in which this knowledge has been suppressed through colonization and patriarchy.  The research will be gathered to assert the utter importance of revitalizing the roles of women and two spirit people in our spiritual and political spaces.

This is so important!  Revitalizing our connections to the land and the water means remembering who we were, as nations, before colonialism took over our spirits and our minds.  Indigenous Sovereignty can only truly be enacted when we unlearn the behaviours that have been violently imprinted on our identities.

Sharing this research and knowledge in an international forum, such as the He Manawa Whenua Indigenous Research Conference, would be a dream come true for Danielle.

The money raised will be used to pay for flight and accomodations while visiting New Zealand.  Danielle is also pursuing several grants to help cover the cost, however because Danielle is not affiliated with an academy, the chances to receive any of these grants are slim.
