John Houston hasn't added a story.
June 9th all was well. Certain uneasiness went with the needed surgery; it could be expected. I was finally getting some relief of pain that had been nagging at my mind and body for some time. And with all the therapies and medications and just plain enduring it, I finally had a name and a solution to it. Cervical fusion!. A simple procedure to relieve nerve pressure on my neck spinal nerves that was causing the excruciating pain 24 hrs. a day while I was awake and then keeping me from sleeping at night. Having gone through tests and doctors and trials and more poking I was tried of it all. With the drain of my physical health due to other problems this was way too much, but i endured. Finally a doctor surmised what it could be and another test was given to see, a long shot but what could I lose, another night's sleep?
He found the slipped disc's and thought how it could be done in good time and take away the pain on the right side of my body, I was truly thankful. It came though with risk's, small as they were. I stay with it and wanted this surgery. It had to be a 'bloodless' surgery, and my head doctor came to the decision he could not by his conscience do it 4 days before my surgery. He was the most experienced of those in his office, but the doctor who stepped in had no problem to do it, and even gave me assurance of doing something that would not take all my discs out. I was grateful hearing that. But the kicker was after being taken off my thinners, 6 days later I began to feel pain down my left leg. I hurt, so it fell in line with body aches. On Sunday the 8th of June it was pronounced, felt like a constant cramp. That Monday during pre-op, I made them aware of it, and they saw the swelling in my left leg.
Ultra-sound was called, minutes later they found the clot, from my thigh to the middle of my calf; my filter was not clogged, so I was relieved of that news some what. I was then told of the delay, and the doubling of my thinner medicine and the protocol I will have to undergo before I have this surgery, now. Going a day before to wean off thinners. On heparin and/or lovenox shots so I can then come off right up the hour of surgery, then getting back on under observation right after surgery. My stay will now be longer. Plus now I have to be on pain medications, I cannot survive this pain for 3 months without it. I am losing the strength in my right arm, I am faking it a lot of times, but it is painful and drains you. I cannot go into the basement as I want due to the lose of my right side especially in my knees. I truly know 'old age' now, do not wish it upon any one.
This delay and extra day in hospital and meds will be excessive; expenses not covered by my Medicare costs. I already know this, I have been through this drill with my wife costs. That is why I am trying to stem this now. Thanks for any help from any one. To all, Bless you very much!
