Caledon Funds hasn't added a story.
Caledonian Fundraising is collecting donations for this years STV appeal.
What is the STV Appeal?
The STV Appeal hopes to expose Scotland’s secret shame, raise awareness, challenge stereotypes and draw attention to the real extent of child poverty in Scotland. We'll be giving Scotland’s vulnerable children a voice. You'll be giving whatever you can via our Just Giving page, secure in the knowledge that every penny rasied stays in Scotland and is spent on the children; STV and the Hunter foundation are covering all the administrative costs involved.
About the appeal
One in five children live in poverty in Scotland. In some communities every second family lives below the breadline.
It was in light of shocking statistics like these that the STV Appeal: Supporting Scotland’s Children was born.
Launched in partnership with The Hunter Foundation in 2011, the Appeal aims to raise funds to support projects at the frontline and tackle the stereotypes surrounding the issue.
Whether it is a community pre-school breakfast club that makes sure every pupil is well fed, or a national programmes supporting affordable football for every young person, through a team of advisers the STV Appeal offers grants to a variety of projects making a difference to Scotland’s young people.
The STV Appeal doesn’t operate an open grant making model which means that you can’t apply directly for funds. Instead, we identify our partner projects across the year in the context of their contribution to addressing issues of child poverty in their communities.
In just three years the STV Appeal has raised more than £5.7 million, assisting 172 projects across all of the country’s 32 local authorities, providing much needed support to over 27,000 children.
Importantly, every penny raised in Scotland, stays in Scotland.
The STV Appeal works closely with Scotland's leading experts in the field of child poverty, including leading figures such as Sir Harry Burns and John Carnochan, sharing knowledge and expertise with both small community groups and national charities on their experiences of addressing the challenges of child poverty in Scotland.
Every year the Scottish Government has match funded up to £1million money raised by fundraisers and it is doing so again for 2014.
This year, the STV Appeal has also been selected as the charity partner for the freshnlo Pedal for Scotland cycling ride, the biggest event of its kind in the country.
We understand that money is tight these days, but let us not forget why we donate to the STV appeal. 1 in 5 children in Scotland are brought up in poverty stricken conditions and are unable to enjoy even the simplest things in life that many of us take fror granted.
Your donations, along with that of other fundraising groups could help thousands of Scottish children this year.
It's 2014 - let's make poverty history!
Don't forget, any donation of £20 puts you into our free prize draw. If you are the lucky winner then a £50 Amazon.co.uk gift card will be e-mailed to you on the day of the appeal after we have donated the funds.
