Friends,
I met Joey back when my daughter, McKenna was in the 1st grade. His daughter, Willow was in her same class and he would drop her off in the mornings and his other daughter, Indigo was still in the stroller. He was a "stay at home" dad. We would both bring in lunch for our girls and sit at the picnic tables in the courtyard at Seminole Elementary and somehow we just clicked. We both commented many times on this, because we couldn't be different. I think we had lunch together then for the next two years until his daughter, Willow transferred schools closer to their home. We still continued to get together and the girls remained friends. Little did we know what brought us together. During this time, his younger daughter, Indigo was in and out of the hospital frequently and they weren't sure what was going on. Eventually she was diagnosed with Ulcerative Colitis. She was 3 years old. This was a hard blow for both Joey and his wife, Bobbie. Because, we had gotten close, they knew of my struggles with Crohn's Disease. Over the years, Indigo has had many hard struggles with numerous hospitalizations. She's missed holidays, vacations and school events. Right now, she's very sick again and the doctors are trying to decide a new course of treatment. Financially, this has devastated their family. Bobbie is the main source of income but with all the medical bills and the way insurance is today, I'm sure you can imagine the type of burden they have faced over the years just to stay afloat. They are now in danger of losing their home. Joey has his own lawn business, but has had to cut back to be available to take care of Indigo. These people are good and kind people and it's hard to watch them continue to go through this month after month with their daughter. Joey has volunteered at his daughter's Elementary school all the years she's been there. He started a "Bucket Drum" class for the kids and had also taught this for the last few years. They actually march in our annual Seminole Pow Wow Parade in March. A couple years ago, he was voted " Volunteer of the Year" at their school. I am putting this out there, in a private way, to ask you to consider helping if you are able. I am just sending this by email or messsenger, not splashing it all over social media. Again, they are private people, but even private people need someone to lend a hand sometimes. If you could share this, please only do so through your email or messenger app, not on your facebook wall. I've set a steep goal but I'm hopeful that if enough people share this and read about it, they might be moved to help out. Anything you are able to give will be greatly appreciated. If you'd rather send me a check, to avoid the fees associated with these platform fund raisers, just email me at jillott93@gmail.com and I'll give you my address. Caveat here-I must know you for this option. Thank you, in advance, for anything you can do to help me. I just feel really strongly that I need to do something to help this family.
