My name is Jacquelyn Davis. I have a rare disease called Para Neoplastic Limbic Encephalitis. We're fundraising by making skirts and other goodies in exchange for a chance to help me be the healthiest I can be.

Hi, my name is Jacquelyn Davis. Welcome to Skirts With a Cause!

Hi Everyone! My story is in progress:

Update on Trip:

For everyone who has donated and ordered skirts so far, I will be forever grateful for your generosity and help during this time. I have had to forfeit my spot for the conference because it's getting close and I haven't raised the money. However, I think God works in mysterious ways. A couple of weeks ago I was reaccepted to Lipscomb University. I spent a semester there in Fall 2017 and I was blown away by the spirituality, academics, and the great friends I had made there. I never thought I could go to school because of my rare disease and my life was forever changed by that initial acceptance letter. After Fall, I had a relapse with my chronic illness and became intensely ill. I spent the next year at home pondering my next move and feeling a little defeated. Lipscomb was a game changer in what I thought I could do and was one of the reasons why I started this campaign. I sat with my Mom in the beginning of August 2018 and we talked about where I have felt the happiest. I decided to reapply and was welcomed in. Fall 2018 was too short of a runway financially , but I am enrolled for Winter/ Spring 2019. My leftover tuition after aid will be a burden without this campaign so with all things considered I have decided to keep this campaign up with a new objective.

1. College

My New Goal:

On a large scale:

I will need to rent an apartment in Nashville because I am too old to live on campus.

My outstanding balance is almost 10,000.

I will need to continue making garments to support myself in the active arts community in Nashville.

However, I want to start

My overall goal will not change until I hit it my inital $3,500.

$1,500 dollars are going towards tuition.

That equals

$300 of the $3,500 will go towards making caps for kids in hospitals. I was once a kid in a hospital and this is a very close cause to my heart.

The rest will go into a fund to help support myself while at Lipscomb University.

I’ve started a Fundrazr making skirts in exchange for donations to save my quality of life. I’m a 26-year-old woman from Birmingham, Alabama and I have been diagnosed with a serious disease called Paraneoplastic (pre-cancerous) Limbic (affecting the nervous system) encephalitis (meaning swelling in the brain).

Sewing is a great passion of mine, which I use as a distraction during episodes of pain.

Sometimes I sew to shake off jitters between cancer medications and doctors’ appointments. Mostly though, I sew because I enjoy it.

A day for me is like a rollercoaster full of healthy moments and cognitive challenges. I can have intense spasms, trouble speaking, but other times I can be more eloquent like in my video. Having Limbic Encephalitis is similar to having half a brain. My head hurts and my body freaks out constantly. Sometimes I feel like a blender, sometimes a little better, but never like myself.

Making Patterns

I have been forced to leave college, and much of a regular life, to take care of my health fulltime. At this point, I am in a tough transition without private insurance. While there is no cure, certain therapies have helped me.
I believe I can get better. I want to get better and be as healthy as possible. That means healing physically and emotionally from the trauma of my disease.
I need your help.

I’ve started a Fundrazr to make skirts, dresses, and other goodies in return for anyone who donates $60 or more.

Without your help I will continue to suffer physically.

My initial goal was to raise at least $3,500.

A- line skirt for a donor!

But with your help, I have done something I never thought I could do.
Make skirts for you and help others while accepting donations. It's  a rewarding work and I am thankful.

Dresses I've made!

A Card with a donation of $5 or more

A Different Shines t-shirt with a donation of $45 or more

An A-line or Circle skirt with a donation of $60 or more

Please leave a note stating your choice of a red, blue, or  green skirt.

A skirt for you and one for another Autoimmune Disease Patient with a donation of $150 or more

Local Birmingham Designer, Garland Jackson dress with a donation of $250 or more

Custom Evening Gown with a donation of $500 or more

Skirts and dresses almost seem to have a magical effect on the wearer. We can feel beautiful. In my illness, I’ve felt the most beautiful in dresses and skirts. I’ve had some of the best memories in dresses and I hope others can feel special as well.

Who will be sewing your new clothing items?

I’ve been sewing for three years. Though I am ill, I am so excited for you to call these pieces your own.

Garland Jackson – Fashion Designer

((bio coming soon))

Encephalitis may affect my body, but I believe in my spirit that I was made to live a full and abundant life. Please help make my dreams of a healthier life come true.  Thank you so much for even reading this post and considering donating to this special cause.
