Give Mario a Helping Hand
We are three sisters lending a hand to a kind, hardworking and humble man and his family who’ve had a tough year and need our help to get back on their feet.
We have seen how hard Mario works to make a living and how tragic this year has been for him and his family.
By sharing his story, we hope you join our fundraiser and make a donation to help Mario recover. These are hard times for everyone, so all donations are welcome - big and small.
Thanking you in advance,
Ana, Elizabeth and Rocio Fierro
Mario’s Story
A Laborer’s Life - Mario Gaona Ramirez cuts trees for a living. He is 47 years old and has been trimming and caring for trees for the past 17 years.
He lives with his wife Rocio (no relation to fundraisers), his daughter Paulina and son Emmanuel, and their grandparents in an apartment in San Jose, CA.
Mario has worked hard all his life, yet the 2020 pandemic and other tragedies have threatened his llivelihood.
2020 A Tragic Year - Covid-19 left many manual workers without jobs, but with ingenuity and perseverance Mario found work wherever he could. As the pandemic worsened, so did Mario’s job prospects. He salvaged whatever jobs he could while his wife worked a few hours as a hair stylist to keep the family afloat.
No matter the crisis, laborers do not have the luxury to telecommute, to collect unemployment, or to stop working - and this put Mario in harm’s way.
In June, Mario and his wife and his mother-in-law contracted the coronavirus. They became ill and their children had to move out while their parents recovered. After some time Mario and his wife recovered, but Mario’s mother-in-law did not survive.
Mario dealt with these setbacks the best he could and went back to work as soon as he could. No job is too small or inconsequential for a proud worker like Mario, and he soon found a few jobs cutting trees again.
In November the pandemic surged again, and Mario’s few remaining jobs began to disappear. Then Mario suffered a serious chainsaw accident that almost severed his right arm and left him unable to work.
Help Mario Get Back to Work - Mario is a proud worker and he wants to get back to work. However, his accident was severe and he will need to stay in the hospital and undergo several surgeries to repair the tendons, nerves and muscles in his arm.
Like many manual laborers, Mario is significantly underinsured, and he knows the medical bills are mounting and that he won’t be able to work for some time. For a man who prides himself in being an excellent worker and provider for his family, the situation is frightening.
Reachable Goals - Our goal is to raise $35,000 so that the family can pay for his medical bills and treatments and the family can get through the winter. We know this is only a fraction of the costs Mario will incur, however, it is a good start and your donations will help restore Mario’s faith and his family’s wellbeing.
Please post this fundraiser on your social media, share it with your contacts, and make a donation. We may not be able to help all those in need, yet, right now we have the chance to help an honest and deserving worker and his family.
Thank you for your generosity.
