Friends of David hasn't added a story.
Welcome!
Frederick David Watts, known as David to friends new and old, has lived in New Haven since the 1980's where he writes poems and draws, sometimes combining these together, and enjoys an intellectually rich life (see his work on his web site at http://www.fdavidwatts.com). He also loves to cook.
David has navigated some difficult times as most of you know. Most recently, he has been living in a studio apartment on his own in downtown New Haven for over three years now. Here he enjoys his independence and cooks up a storm while maintaining his connections to his support network and care team with the help of his cell phone. You can read two stories about his recent life by journalist Daniel Shkolnik here in the Daily Nutmeg at a more troubled point in 2015 and most recently here in Ink Magazine, p. 50).
A few of his long-time and dedicated friends are reaching out to all who have crossed paths with David over the years as friends, acquaintances, or caretakers to update you on his current activities and life and provide all of you with an opportunity to send him a message of support and, if you please, a small token of your support and esteem.
We will use the funds to purchase three gift cards (depending on how much is raised): one to Grey Matter Books on York Street where David reads and acquires the books to feed his active mind, one to Artists & Craftsmen Supplies on Chapel Street where he can restock his drawing and stationery supplies; and one to Florian, a French restaurant that is a favorite of David's for an occasional special meal.
So in the spirit of the holidays, we invite you to join us in celebrating and supporting David's hard-fought and hopefully enduring good life.
You can leave a message and choose when you give whether you want to be anonymous on this site and whether to disclose the amount given. We will forward to David all comments with attribution but not with the amounts given (You should feel no obligation to provide the platform with support in addition to your contribution)
You can write David at 434 George Street, Apt 1, New Haven, CT 06511 or call/text him at 203-772-9572.
Thank you and happy holidays to you and yours!
Yours,
Phil Falcone, Middle School/High School/College classmate
Sarada George, High School classmate
Jim Farnam, New Haven friend
