Please see english version below
AYUDANOS A SEGUIR AYUDANDO
Help support a community run aid group in Mazunte after Hurricane Agatha
In the wake of Hurricane Agatha on the coast of Oaxaca, there are landslides, cut off streets, severely affected people, lost homes, lost businesses, health hazards and more...
One week after this event, we find ourselves needing to create support groups with special tools to open roads, remove what can be salvaged, and leave homes prepared to face the rainy season that is just beginning.
With your support, we can provide essential help to local people in and around the Mazunte area as well as reaching much further into isolated communities who have been most devasted by Hurricane Agatha.
What we do:
- Community Kitchen providing 2 free meals a day to all volunteers and those in need
- Donation center for isolated small communities in need – clothes, bedding, building materials, ect.
- Producing and distributing food boxes
- Cleaning up health hazards like sitting water where mosquitoes and mosquito-born illnesses can develop
- Rebuilding roofs and preparing homes for the rainy season
- Trucks available to drive tools and important materials to these communities
- Purchasing important tools like chainsaw to clear routes and access isolated communities
- Managing larger donations and resource distribution for people in need
How we got started:
After the hurricane, many of our homes needed a lot of work to become livable again. It was an overwhelming task for an individual person. A few friends understood that if we each work alone, it is much more physically and emotionally difficult. We decided to all gather together to work in each of our houses, one by one, day by day. Working on a team was much more efficient. Once a person's house was complete, they became available to serve the larger community. Our team is now 35 people and growing! We are now expanding our reach to be available to further and smaller communities in need.
Our team is made up of local community members, construction workers, local fishermen, long-term expats, tourists, and people coming from out of town daily to support!
Tadeo, a local restaurant in town has generously offered their restaurant as a full-time community space for us to congregate, plan, cook, eat, gather supplies, and serve. This space has become the hub of service. Our kitchen is the heart of this project. We provide 2 free meals a day for all volunteers as well as anyone else who needs a meal.
ALL HELP, ANY AMOUNT, IS VERY VALUABLE RIGHT NOW!
HELP US KEEP HELPING.
