94 Weeks running

For those of you who don’t know me, my name is Lisa Connally and I was diagnosed with Breast Cancer, twice in four years. Each diagnosis and treatment was different and challenging. One year ago today, February 16th, I started 12 weeks of chemotherapy with an additional 9months of targeted therapy. I’m currently done with all my active treatments, but once a cancer patient always a cancer patient and I’ll always be under the care of my amazing oncologist.

One thing I learned, is that not everyone has a built in support system like I did. Many of my friends and family offered to help, provided meals, watched Coco (even driving in from out of state) and some even had gifts waiting for me every Wednesday. (Thursday was chemo day so these Wednesday gifts, big and small was something I looked forward too.)

The most useful gift I received was from a woman named Angie, whom I’ve yet to meet, but she knew exactly what I would need for the coming weeks and months. Angie knew because she had just gone through chemo herself. She gifted me a backpack filled with the essentials (and some fun stuff) that I would need with me. This bag was carefully packed every week and came with me to chemo and doctors appointments and it was a lifesaver. Everything I needed and some extras like phones, chargers, iPads and books could fit in the bag.

I’m asking for your help to help me fund backpacks filled with some of the necessities that patients will need. I plan on providing as many backpacks as possible for patients starting chemo at the New York Oncology Hematology (NYOH) Albany Medical Center location. This is the location where I’ve spent a great deal of time over the last 5+ years. The doctors, nurses and staff are amazing and the patients are lucky to have them on their team.

If you are interested in donating either items for the bags or funds to help purchase items please let me know. If you are willing to share this with your circle of friends, family, and contacts I would be grateful.
