Lori's Hands are college student volunteers that provide in-home support to people with chronic illnesses like cancer, multiple sclerosis, Lou Gehrig's disease, and heart failure.

Who We Are

Lori's Hands college student volunteers provide in-home support to people with chronic illnesses like cancer, multiple sclerosis, Lou Gehrig's Disease, and heart failure.

What We Do

While the students assist with grocery shopping, yard work and other tasks made difficult by disease, recipients provide valuable insights into the human experience of chronic illness.

Students serve through the student club and through service learning classes. In both cases, their volunteer experiences are life-changing parts of their academic careers, preparing them to be compassionate, informed professionals.

How You Can Help

Donations to Lori's Hands support travel to meet with potential clients and interested universities, maintenance of our website, and production of marketing materials. Funds are also used for special projects at client homes. Lori's Hands is also raising funds to support the infrastructure needed to replicate the model on other college campuses.

What Clients Say about Lori's Hands

  • "Lori's Hands keep my hopes up in being able to cope every day."
  • "It has given me so much hope to have the students come to visit. Every week, they help around the house, we chat, and we meditate together. It is the most peaceful part of my week. I look so forward to it! I wish every person with MS could access this program."
  • "I want to keep my family in the comfort of their own home (and not in a nursing facility) for as long as I can so they can be together. Lori’s Hands is the catalyst that is making that possible."

What Students Say about Lori's Hands

  • "This is definitely the best volunteer experience I've ever had. Being involved in Lori's Hands has not only been personally fulfilling, but I know it will make me a more compassionate, informed nurse."
  • "I didn't truly understand what it meant to be compassionate and empathetic towards people and their needs until I started with Loris Hands. Now, as a Physician Assistant, I strive to connect with every one of my patients as I did our clients, to provide the best care possible."
  • "Lori's Hands is a really different experience from the other things I do on campus, which I like. And the clients we see are so appreciative. They love when we come to visit and always ask about what's going on in our lives. It's fun to get to know them."
