In the Philippines, tropical cyclones (typhoons) are called bagyo. Tropical cyclones entering the Philippine Area of Responsibility are given a local name by the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA), which also raises public storm signal warnings as deemed necessary. Around 19 tropical cyclones or storms enter the Philippine Area of Responsibility in a typical year and of these usually 6 to 9 make landfall.
The deadliest overall tropical cyclone to impact the Philippines is believed to have been the September 1881 typhoon which is estimated to have killed up to 20,000 people as it passed over the country in September 1881. In modern meteorological records, the deadliest storm was Typhoon Haiyan, which became the strongest landfalling tropical cyclone ever recorded as it crossed the Central Philippines on November 7-8, 2013. The wettest known tropical cyclone to impact the archipelago was the July 14–18, 1911 cyclone which dropped over 2,210 millimetres (87 in) of rainfall within a 3-day, 15-hour period in Baguio City. Tropical cyclones usually account for at least 30 percent of the annual rainfall in the northern Philippines while being responsible for less than 10 percent of the annual rainfall in the southern islands.
The Philippines is the most-exposed large country in the world to tropical cyclones, and it has even affected settlement patterns in the northern islands; for example, the eastern coast of Luzon is very sparsely populated.

The Story
Typhoon Rammasun, in the Philippines Typhoon Glenda, is the ninth officially named storm and the third typhoon of the annual typhoon season. It is also the seventh storm of the season to be named by the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA). Rammasun is a Siamese word for thunder god. After Lingling and Kajiki earlier in 2014, Rammasun became the third tropical cyclone, and the first typhoon to directly impact the Philippines in 2014. The storm formed in the Intertropical Convergence Zone, an area near the equator where the northeast and southeast trade winds come together, and slowly drifted northwestwards. Having passed through the islands of Micronesia, the system turned westwards and quickly progressed along its path under the influence of a subtropical ridge (STR). Rammasun posed a significant threat to the Philippine island of Luzon, as it was expected to reach typhoon intensity before making landfall there. Though initially forecast to make landfall in Cagayan Valley, the storm followed a more westerly path and was later expected to make landfall in the Bicol region and then pass through Bataan and Zambales before brushing past Metro Manila.
In preparation for the storm, Governor of Guam Eddie Calvo declared the island in Condition of Readiness 3 and later upgraded it to Condition of Readiness 1. On July 11, NASA satellites revealed Rammasun passing directly over Guam.American National Weather Service stated that an unexpected rise in wind shear kept the system from intensifying much further before reaching Guam. Rammasun only made landfall on Guam as a tropical depression, with winds much weaker than earlier anticipated. However, under the influence of the system, the island did receive a substantial amount of rainfall, making that day the wettest in around 3 months. The United States territory received 25 to 50 mm (1 to 2 inches) of rain.
Following the closure of maritime seaports, more than 100 passengers were reportedly stranded at the Port of Batangas, along with 39 rolling cargoes. Meanwhile, at least 841 passengers were stranded in five ports in the Bicol region, namely Matnog, Tabaco, Bulan, Cataingan and Pilar. A total 50 flights were cancelled and over 100 thousand families were evacuated as the typhoon neared landfall. The Philippine Department of Health said that they have prepared all government hospitals to aid the rescue and relief process during and after the typhoon. They claimed that they are much better prepared now, than they were for earlier typhoons. Ahead of the landfall, a city in the state of Albay had declared a state of calamity. At around 17:00 Philippine Standard Time (09:00 UTC), Rammasun's eye passed directly over Rapu-Rapu, Albay while the storm was at peak intensity. Various parts of the National Capital Region reported power outages during the storm. They were reportedly caused by "a temporary system balance at 1:29 a.m. due to a sudden plant outage." At least 6,000 people were stranded at various seaports throughout the country due to the storm.
Throughout its devastating journey through southern Luzon, the powerful typhoon barely weakened but instead maintained its strength and even intensified as it made its way across the Bicol Region.
In the couple of days after the passing of Typhoon Glenda, families have been suffering from illnesses caught in the flooded streets and homes lost along with their loved ones.
What We Need
The first aspect of the campaign will be to fully fund a reward that is sizable enough to change the lives of the families who lost their homes and their loved ones to Typhoon Glenda. Our target remains $23,000 for the expenses of rice, water, noodles, packed foods, canned goods, mats, blankets, toiletries, etc. We realize this may take a while and may require funds generated outside of this campaign.
To ensure we meet this goal we are actively negotiating with key donors willing to support us. But you can make this happen with the generosity of your blessings.
Reward
You will be helping, improving and speeding up the relief of Glenda's disaster by giving your blessings unto those who are in need. With your help, you will be saving the lives and suffering of many. Would you be willing to share your blessings for a young child to have a full belly, a warm blanket, shelter and more?
Why Donate to us?
Our relatives in the Philippines have suffered for decades from constant Typhoon disasters. We've lost beloved ones in raging floods. We are one of the select dozens who were able to live a life abroad away from harm. We believe we must pray and give our blessings to other families in need that were caught in these disasters and that deal with them every year. Those who contribute, we give our whole hearted thanks.
Donate now to help the lives of many and put an end to the death of innocents from lack of supplies and shelter. You could be saving the life of a child to live a better life ruined by these disasters.
All funds will be used to buy supplies and/or distrubuted to the respected relief and donation centers below:
