Tammy Frazier hasn't added a story.
As they headed home, the Catt family was hit by an 18-year-old driver who ran a stop sign.
In a second, disaster set in and the Catts' lives were forever changed.
Both Amanda and Alva Catt were airlifted to Methodist Hospital in Indianapolis.
Alva had suffered a separated diaphragm, multiple broken ribs, punctured lungs, a lacerated spleen, several internal injuries and his left kidney was hanging on by a few millimeters of the vein. In his first night at the hospital, Alva required 30 units of blood to maintain his survival.
"Methodist is a fantastic trauma center, but we all believe God had his hands in this situation," Moore said.
Moore said Alva has lost 60 pounds as a result of the accident. After 62 days at Methodist, Alva was able to return home, however, there are more surgeries in his future.
Amanda had flown over the car and landed in a ditch, several feet away from the accident scene. Her cervical spine (C-5) was fractured to her thoracic spine (T-4) and from mid-thoracic (T-5) through her lower back (T-11). She had a left upper leg compound fracture, bilateral lower leg fractures and two broken left ribs. Her neck fracture resulted in nerve damage that has left her left arm paralyzed.
Amanda worked as a LPN taking care of special-needs kids and adults at Especially Kids in Shelbyville.
"She was working to be a nurse. I understand her story because I, myself, am a registered nurse and work in critical care units. The majority of nurses don't go into nursing because it pays good money; we go into this field, because we like to give of ourselves to others and our worlds evolve around taking care of others," Moore said.
Moore said in order for Amanda to remain in the nursing field, she has to continue her education and move past bedside nursing into a role of education.
"Not only does Amanda have to adapt to being paralyzed and learning to do things differently, her career is being forced to adapt as well," Moore said.
As a fellow motorcycle rider, Moore wanted to get involved and do something that would help her friends in their time of needed, and she, along with several others have organized the Catt Ride on Sept. 14.
The event is sponsored by Indiana Grand Racing Casino and includes buffet meals and $10 in game play for each participant.
The cost for the event is $25 for one rider, which includes one buffet and $10 in game play; or $40 for two riders and includes two buffets and $20 in game play.
In addition, Mercy Triumphs, The Jeff Owens Band, Rob Springer Unplugged, Branded Bluegrass and StageCoach 1 will entertain guests, and there will be a car and motorcycle show and vendors, in addition to the ride.
Registration for the event begins at 9 a.m. at Indiana Grand Casino, and registration is open to 500. The ride leaves at 11:30 a.m. and will return to Indiana Grand Casino at 3 p.m.
Doug Burns, president of the Infamous Few Shelby County Charity Riders, is "proud" to be a part of the event.
"We have so many people working on this event to make it a huge success. There's been so much planning and work from so many, I am awestruck with it. I love this community and how we all come together when help is needed. I heard a quote once, "We can't change the world, but we can change someone's world," and we are," Burns said.
Grant Scharton, Director of Communications for Indiana Grand Casino, said the casino is excited to be part of such a great event.
With the event planning underway, Moore has one final request.
"When you wake up tomorrow morning, tell your kids you love them regardless of where they may live and kiss your better-half bye. You never know when a tragedy may come your way, and believe me, I see more than my share each and every day. So, don't go through life not thinking it will not happen to you," Moore said.
For anyone whom can not attend this event and would like to help they can click on the paypal button and donate that way as well.
