Nava Brahe hasn't added a story.
On June 10, 2014, Nava Brahe was diagnosed with ductal carcinoma breast cancer. On July 3, 2014, she had a bialteral mastectomy, and the pathology revealed that the cancer had spread to a group of lymph nodes next to her left breast. That diagnosis meant that she would have to undergo aggressive chemotherapy treatments and radiation to ensure that any remaining cancer cells would be eradicated. Here is her story:
For the past five years, I have earned my living as a freelance writer. Anyone who has worked as a freelancer in any field knows that this type of work can simultaneously be very rewarding, but very stressful, since you're never completely sure how much money you're going to make from month-to-month. Since I began my chemotherapy treatments in late August, my workload has completely diminished; the side effects of chemotherapy are preventing me from delivering the high-quality content my clients expect.
While I have excellent insurance coverage, I am unable to meet other expenses I have, and this has left me quite dispirited, since I am not in the custom of reaching out for help. For most of my life, I've thought of myself as a "helper", rather than someone in the position of "helpee".
My good friend, perfumer Amanda Feeley, recently pledged 40 percent of the proceeds from our collaborative fragrance, "Dreams of Smoke" to help me out, and she told me that others have inquired about ways to help me. I agreed to set up this account to give anyone who wants to, the opportunity to help out. I will likely not be able to work at my usual pace until after my chemotherapy treatments are complete, which should be by the middle of December. The amount I've requested is approximately what I would make in billable fees during this time period.
Thank you for taking an interest in my story, and thank you for any and all donations.
