Labas (Hello) friends and family!

I would love to share with you an incredible opportunity that God has presented to me. On August 25th I will be packing my bags (with cold weather clothes this time) and heading to the beautiful country of Lithuania taking classes at LCC International University. Well, the adventure does go on. During my semester abroad, I will be studying philosophy along with a number of other international students from the U.S. including several of my closest friends.

How did this adventure begin in the first place? Well... About four months ago, I was reflecting upon my time in Hawaii and pondering what my time back home would look like. I knew that it was necessary for me to complete my senior year at Azusa Pacific University and return to my studies, but the thought of going back to “life as normal” after being in an environment so culturally diverse did not exactly appeal to me. For those of you who know me well, you know that I love school and absolutely love learning, so the desire to do anything but finishing school was unusual. I asked God about it and knew that He had something in store that was different than I expected, but was not sure what that would entail.

Sure enough, in April I began to talk with my roommate from APU (Amanda) about the possibility of studying abroad with her during the Fall semester. After researching a bit, I found out that LCC International University in Klaipėda, Lithuania offers the courses I still need to take for my senior year of school. I applied to study abroad the next day (not sure of whether LCC would even accept my application because it was a month late) and was accepted into the program the following week. Even when I doubted that it would work out and all the odds seemed to go against me studying abroad, God still opened the doors for me to be able to go! I know that Lithuania will be completely different than Hawaii in both its climate and culture, but I expect that God will continue moving in mighty ways as my friends and I study at LCC and take every opportunity to be involved in what He is already doing on the opposite side of the globe.

While God has opened up this door for me to develop a greater heart of compassion for His people and learn along side others from around the world, the exciting part is that you are able to share in this exciting opportunity in several ways! First, you can help by praying for my fellow students and I as we prepare for 4 months of studying abroad. We will need prayers that God will prepare us for our visit and bless our efforts as we serve those at LCC and the surrounding community in Lithuania. We will also need prayers that our financial needs will be met. At this time any and all efforts towards raising money to cover the cost of airfare, tuition and living expenses greatly assist us in our desire to study in a cross-cultural environment.

Another way you can be involved is to help provide the financial support that is crucial to making this trip even possible. Any donations are much appreciated and will be used to cover both airfare, tuition and living expenses. Whether you feel led to contribute financially, through prayer, or both, I thank you for assisting me in my desire to study along side people from around the world.

I look forward to participating in what God is already doing in Lithuania and letting you know all about how God has worked through us students in upon my return in December. Thank you again for your time, encouragement and support! Have an amazing summer!

Ačiū (Thank you) and blessings,

Laura Christiansen
