Andrea Timm hasn't added a story.
Our family needs help with the accumulating bills and getting a ramp built and also the upgrades we need in our house to make it easier for Andrea to get around in our home.
The past 2 years of my life have been the most amazing times of my life and yet the scariest. I met my wife in April of 2012. Meeting her was a chance in a million. when we first started talking, we had met through a mutual friend. After we starting talking, she told me a little about her life and she was very straight forward about her having spina bifida. She had said she had been through a lot and i didn't realize what a lot meant...... The good, the bad and the ugly. During the time we dated, I got to meet her daughter, family and friends. And I also got to see what she went through on a day to day basis. The struggles she goes through just doing an everyday task that I used to take for granted and sometimes still do.On somedays for her just standing is a task and other days she has more energy.
When Andrea was born, her mother noticed a bump on her back and took her to see a doctor. After seeing several doctors that said there was nothing wrong, one doctor finally diagnosed her with Spina bifida and sent her down to Children's hospital in Detroit to be looked at by a neurosurgeon. At 2 years old, Andrea had her first surgery and shortly after had her second as she had got spinal meningitis. The doctors then would go on to say to her parents that she would probably never be able to do a lot of the same things as other kids would growing up but her mom and dad never treated her any differently then any other child. Because of this, Andrea did prove the doctors wrong. She was in gymnastics as a child and played baseball as well. When she was 8, she had her third surgery. This one went well and she continued to show the doctors they were wrong about her not being able to do things. And she went quite a while without a surgery until she was 16. But this one was not as easy as the last one. She got a spinal leak that cause her to have spinal headaches and couldn't lift her head without crying. She was taken back to the hospital and had to have another surgery to drain the spinal fluid from her brain. Luckily, she never had to get a shunt. By this time, she was playing in her high school sports and was working too. Then just two years later, at 18, she had another surgery. And with this one she got an infection that caused her to have a second one right after. At 21, she surprised her doctors that she was having a baby and carried her almost to full term. Then, she did well for a while and when she was 23, she had to have another surgery. This one went as well as it could have. Almost exactly two years later at 25, she again had to have yet another one. This one didn't go as easy as the last because she ended up having an infection just 4 days later and after being in the ICU, she got another infection and had to go back in for the third time in less than 2 weeks. This one caused her to have the infection cut out and she had to heal fron the inside out which left her with a hole the size of your fist. Her mom and stepdad were her "nurses" at home taking care of her and making sure her wound was taken care of on a daily basis for 5 months until she had to go back into surgery to have it finally surgically closed.
And on December 2nd of 2013 was her last surgery. This last surgery has left her with little to no feeling in her legs. And because of this, she is unable to walk without assistance in the home and she has to use her wheelchair outside of the home.
Andrea has endured so much in just the time that I have known her which had me love her even more seeing how strong she is having to deal with this from day to day. So, now all of you pretty much understand what my wife has gone through and I'm sorry about the long read. But, I hope all of you can see how strong of a person she is as much as I do. And Andrea and I thank all you for at least taking the time to at least read her story. And any help we may recieve means so much to us and is greatly appreciated!
