Susie Martin hasn't added a story.
In August of 2013, Jeffry's pain became so overwhelming that he had a seizure - his friends Ken and Cassie called 911 and he was rushed to the James Haley VA hospital in Tampa where he was for 22 days. He had 2 more seizures while in the hospital. Cassie and Ken stayed at Jeffry's to care for his cats and make sure his musical instruments were not stolen as his neighborhood is considered a high crime district, very close to the Hillsborough Co. jail.
Just a few days into Jeff's hospitalization his landlords, who proclaim to be his friends of 30+ years, came to Jeff's home and started screaming at them for being there. Jeff was released from the hospital with a walker and several new medications and told he must have someone stay with him 24 hours a day or he would have to go to assisted living. His friends offered to stay on but the landlords came again the same day of his release and tried to raise his rent by almost $200 and tried to tow off his vehicle. The police were called and the landlords were advised they were overstepping the limits of the law and told to leave.
When Jeffry attempted to walk to the landlords home later that day to try and reason with him, he had another seizure while walking down MLK Blvd and a nice lady named Beth Duff from the Florida State Fairgrounds stopped, called 911 and stayed with him until the ambulance took him back to the VA Hospital. He was released 3 days later in a wheelchair and immediately the landlords started harassing him again.
They then started calling his estranged wife in Orlando with wild stories that they were running a meth lab, that Jeff was the father of his caretakers baby, that they were drugging Jeff, etc, all with the purpose of getting her to come take care of him and put his caretakers out. This is not possible. Once they found this out, they refused to give her the gas money they promised and went to the court house and filed eviction papers based on "unauthorized individuals living in the household" - in other words, because he did what the VA told him to do and got someone to come stay with him, he is being evicted.
Upon inspection of the house, it is a fire and health hazard - black mold grows on the leaking bathroom ceiling--the water to the toilet never stops running. Raw sewage is being piped from the bathroom under the back fence to an adjacent junkyard right out on the ground. Turns out the water bill we thought was for Jeff's property is actually for BOTH apartments AND the junkyard!! *(and it's in MY name so I'm pretty pissed too). Hundreds of dollars have been spent on roach spray and bombs by Mr Rott to no avail--the house is infested with vermin and it's quite likely these things are all contributing to his illnesses. Not too long before Jeffry ended up in the hospital he had to crawl under the house to stop a leaking water pipe, through raw sewage. Repeated complaints to the property owners have been ignored.
Jeff CANNOT be by himself. His friends are willing to care for him and the VA has provided him with paperwork to have them paid to do so. Right now they are just guests in his home taking care of him at no charge.
Jeff needs regular medical care from the VA in Tampa so relocating to another home in that area is critical. He has no money left to do this. He needs help finding a house large enough for himself, the couple who care for him 24 hours a day, his 4 cats and the caretakers puppy, preferably with a wheelchair ramp but one can be added later if necessary.
This man defended our country. He does NOT deserve to be treated this way in his condition!!
Viet Nam era vets are the forgotten ones. Please help this man find a new home where he can play his music praising the Lord in peace. God Bless!
