This is my thank you to Micky mouse...
I love seeing your happy little face with your big black eyes full of life and spirit when I first see you in the day, anyone that has seen your little face over the door will know what I mean.
With you there has always been more good days than bad, you're always such a happy little soul. Even if I used to get something wrong you were never worried and you wouldn't blame me, you just picked us up and took us to the next hurdle. We had so much fun and games as a child and you put up with all the mad stuff and let me have fun, always doing what I asked you to do, you would give anything a go and be good at it.
I know you can be shy at times and aren't a massive fan of over fussing, but you are so kind and gentle, such a knowing and proud little pony.
You are only 13.1hh but once I got on you you become 14.1hh, you would grow just thinking about being under saddle. I trusted you with my life and you never failed me, whether it was galloping as fast as you could, jumping ditches or going through water you always looked after me and made me feel safe.
There are so many horses I have had over the years but I’ve still not found one as good as you. There was never a single thing I asked of you that you doubted or questioned. You would always happily go on and try your best.
Although you were so good you wasn’t perfect... You was such a little shit to catch! I would get so close to you I could almost touch you, then you would canter off to the end of the field, spin round to look at me with your head so high like you was laughing at me! It was like you was saying 'if you want me to run about you can do so first'.
You have given me so many memories over the last 25 years....
I remember coming out of the showjumping ring after getting a double clear, as we always had, (you were so fast but so tidy we never had a pole down), you would jog trot out of the ring as proud as any horse could be, head held high, rosettes hanging from your bridle. You really made me feel like I was the luckiest girl at the show, and I was.
I remember being at the cross country courses and my dad would lead you around, you would look like a racehorse, head turned into his shoulder jog trotting at his side knowing that something exciting was coming. You were always so light in the hand and never a handful but you was just so full of excitement and you couldn't contain it. You always gave me that spark to make me want to get out there and win. You were only little but you had the biggest heart out there and everyone could see it.
I remember the times when my dad would take a hack out and as we was going down the railway lines and me and my brother would hold you and his pony back and wind you up so we could canter as fast as we could up to the back of the back of the ride, you loved every minute as much as I did.
I remember the miles we would go, the freedom we would have, the picnics I would take along with us, I would sit on the grass for ages watching you have your lunch.
I remember that I never had to think about where we was going, you could just tell through my body what we way we was going, we was as one with the tight turns we would do.
I loved your cheekiness, even at 30 years old on a gentle walking hack with a friend I would be on my other horse and have a canter off round the field as you waited, you would give a big whinny as I left wanting to come with me, then you would put your head to the ground, pretend to eat grass so you could get the reins, then you would pick your moment to lift your head up and canter off a few strides before being pulled up. Your body may have grown old but your spirit never did...
There is a saying that every horse at some point in its life should be loved by a little girl, but I think that every girl should at some point in their life have a pony like you to love and I was lucky enough to be one of those girls.
The heart you have for life is the best you could ever ask for in any horse or pony, I will never forget that sparkle in your eye, that beautiful little face or the memories that you have given me and so many other people over the years. This doesn't even begin to cover how amazing and how loved you really are...
But now you are 32, your body is tired and starting to fail and I know that it is now time for me to say... Farewell my precious love, I gently let you go, and pray for any god there be, that you will always know, I loved you so, my little one, that love will never cease, I gave you warmth, I gave you love and now I give you Peace... Thank you Micky Mouse xxx
