Sometimes when it rains, it pours, and lately, it's really been pouring in with illnesses and vetbills for the residents at Hen Haven Microsanctuary. Hen Haven is a small sanctuary located in Norway that primarily cater to chickens, some of which are rescues from the egg industry. It is mainly driven privately by yours truly and out of my own pocket, but sometimes the cost of care prove to much for one persons income to be able to fund, and this is one of those times.
Benjamin, for who'm I also made a fundraser this summer, still struggles with his mysterious skin issue, that causes a swollen and tender comb and bum. He has seen many doctors, including specialists, and yet here we are again. After his second round of antibiotics, he did improve some, but not completely, and sadly, now his condition has started worsening again. He's currently on his third round of antibiotics. He saw the vet last week, but I still haven't been able to pay for our visit, and he hasn't been able to have a blood test and stool test to see what's going on, which is needed.
Ariel had to have an emergency suprerlorin implant last week, as the one she got this summer wore off way to fast this time. Due to an issue with a (benign) mass in an inoperable area around her ovaries, producing an egg could prove deadly for her. This is also a bill we still haven't been able to pay for. In addition, in the last couple of days, Ariel has run a fever and is showing me she's in pain, which is troubling, and we need to figure out why?
And Emma, who still haven't seen the vet at all, have been defecating mainly slimy fluid for over a week. I do not know what is causing this. So far, she appears to have a fairly normal appetite and energy level, and I haven't been able to figure out on my own, what's causing her issues, but she needs at least a stool test to start with. And both she and Bella are also due for new implants to prevent egg laying and ensure they remain as healthy as they can for as long as possible. With all the illnesses and issues that's been going on in the later months, Hen Havens recources are once again depleeted, which is why I have to ask for help for these sweet darlings. I don't know what the exact cost will be, but as it stands. As it stands right now, we owe one vet 5236 Norwegian kroners, that is without Emma and Bella's issues being tended to at all, and without Benjamin and Ariel having had a full work up that they need.
