Casaundra Bower hasn't added a story.
My name is Casaundra but most know me as Cassie. Those that know me, know I have always had pets. For those that don't know me, well...to know me is to know my pets. Its that simple, my life is my pets and love of animals. Want to break the ice and chat with me well just start with "do you have any pets?" and its off to the races !! I can talk a mile a minute for hours about my beloved pets, past and present.
Today I am here to talk about one from the past. My dog Buddy Lee. A German Sheppard mix. He was mine for 15 yrs. I cry so hard thinking of him because I don't think I ever had one so devoted to me. I had him 'put to sleep' this past June after a year long battle with seizures of unknown cause. With out some expensive testing to diagnose for sure, bloodwork and examinations pointed toward cancer. He had one seizure that he just couldn't bounce back from. I tended to him day & night for 3 days and knew he wasn't going to make it but because of his size he could linger for many more before passing and I couldn't let him suffer that long. He couldn't stand I had to hold his head for him to drink and I did this often because he was so thirsty but I knew he would throw it up shortly after so I could only allow a couple laps at a time. My boyfriend would carry him outside to do his business and we would both hold him up till he was done but soon he couldn't hold it and soiled himself. I cleaned him up every time with no complaint. On the 3rd day we made the heart breaking trip. Now at this time in our life my boyfriend and I were struggling terribly financially. We did not have the money for the vet. I called and found the best price and we took some items to pawn shop for the money needed. It still would not be enough for cremation, burial or even disposal of the body. I didn't want the later I wanted him cremated so I called around and found out I could store his body in the freezer until I could afford to do this. That is what I decided. I absolutely hated the idea of putting him in the freezer but couldn't stand any of the other alternatives. Now I am absolutely ashamed to admit Buddy Lee is still in the freezer.
My long time boyfriend and I just can't make ends meet here financially in Florida. We are finally going to be able to move back to Ohio at the end of this month. Unfortunately it will take every penny of my boyfriends check on the 25th to get the moving truck and afford the gas but its now or never. Already this month we are broke thanks to unexpected water line break. We have been struggling to this point to get to move home. Its just been a bad time here in Florida period.
I just can't come up with the money to get my Buddy Lee out of the freezer and cremated so I can take him home with me.
I have called around and Sarasota Pet Crematory has the best deal that is for a private cremation (which means only my dog will be cremated and returned to me as opposed to a communal cremation). $190. This will include an urn. The price is determined by size and Buddy Lee was a big dog. They seem to have the fastest service, the body can be dropped off and ashes back to me a day later and I will need to have his ashes with me by Nov 25th for our journey home. Since there are fees paid to the campaign If I end up without enough money for the cremation in the time frame indicated I will keep the money safe and pack him in dry ice till we get to our destination and find some where there to have him cremated. I plan to contact the crematory to see if a fund can be set up there to accept payments for those who want assurance what the money is used for.
I just can't leave him behind I don't want to have to take him to the woods some where here and bury him and leave him. He was too loyal and I feel so down on myself for not providing for him better in his final days.
Thank you so much for reading. Remember if you can't afford to donate its okay I understand but please share share share this to all you know. We might get there even if a dollar at a time because time is of utmost importance.
Again Thank You All and God Bless,
Cassie
