Kim Davis hasn't added a story.
When Oliver went for his first Vet visit he was diagnosed with Canine Parainvluenzevirus, Mycoplasma Cyno and Pneumovirus. I don’t know exactly what all of this is but do know it made him fell and look horrible. There were a couple of days I did not think he was going to make it, but he pulled thru. We also discovered that his incision from neutering became severely infected and was probably due to the skin not being properly cleaned before the procedure.
After that first struggle, I noticed he was having problems eating and was not drinking water so back to the vet we went (with fingers crossed). They discovered a large cyst in his mouth as well as one on his back that is developing (black) bumps on it. My little trooper is trying so hard to get better but it is such a struggle that I can tell he thinks about giving up at times, but I won’t let him. I make him get up every morning and evening to go for a walk. He growl’s at me because he is in such pain but I insist on picking him up. Once I have him in my arms he just melt’s into me, and I LOVE it. Now comes the hard part for Oliver, walking. I make him walk to the end of the block and back to help keep his limbs from getting really stiff. Our vet thinks he may have some arthritis in his back and left leg but they won’t know for sure until the x-rays are done.
Everyone who meets Oliver loves him and feels sorry for him and wonders what type of horrible life he must have had before coming into my life. Each one of his toenails are deformed (more than likely from living in a wire cage his entire life), when he walks his back is hunched and he needs to stop and rest, he was severely matted and had a feces crusted tail, and yet I feel in love the moment I saw him. It took Oliver the longest time to stop walking in complete circles when I was taken outside. The feeling of grass under his feet is still a strange sensation but little by little he is getting used to it and hope he starts walking on it soon..
His next Vet visit is on Monday (9/21) to have the cyst in his mouth and on his back removed as well as have a major dental cleaning. I am very worried about his dental because all of his teeth are so bad that he may need several teeth pulled. Poor little Oliver was a complete mess and it took several weeks to get him to his current state.
Anyone who knows me also knows how deep my love for animals is and that mine are all very well taken care of. The cost of healing Oliver and his brothers that I rescued from the shelter has been overwhelming. One of the pups has heartworms, 2 others need major dental work, and yet another has a bladder problem (could be a kidney issue - we are not sure just yet). I feel truly blessed to have these guys in my life and their comfort is of the upmost importance to me but my funds can only be stretched so far. Any amount that you can donate will be very much appreciated by me, Oliver and all of his brothers.
