Teri Shore hasn't added a story.
Backpacking the John Muir Trail was the longest and most challenging outdoor adventure I've ever attempted. I finished the JMT by summiting Mt. Whitney after 21 days on July 27, 2014! I started in Tuolumne Meadows in Yosemite and backpacked a total of 185 days. Read more here. All photos copyright Teri Shore. (Lyell Fork of Tuolumne River below.)
The John Muir Trail is an epic
211-mile trail in the Sierra Nevada mountains that extends from
Yosemite to Mt. Whitney — the tallest peak in the lower 48 states. The
JMT is named after naturalist John Muir, founding member and original
president of the Sierra Club.
The Wilderness Act is the landmark conservation
bill passed in 1964 that created a way for Americans to protect their
most pristine public wildlands for future generations. California has
149 wilderness areas totaling nearly 15 million acres.
- You can still support for my John Muir Trail Challenge to cover trip costs and Sierra Club wilderness protection in California.
- I've raised about $1,500, far more than what you see on this website.
- You can donate online directly into the PayPal account connected to this Fundrazr website or go directly to PayPal and search for my account (terishore @ Gmail.com.)
- Or you can send me a check: 515 Hopkins St., Sonoma, CA 95476.
- I plan to deliver a check to the Sierra Club at the Wilderness Conference in October in New Mexico!
- Generous sponsors included Krave Jerky in Sonoma, which filled my backpack with healthy food for the 21-days on the trail! Krave tastes better than any jerky around and has only natural ingredients.
- Sonoma's Whole Foods donated instant soups for the whole trip!
I plan to split all donations 50/50 between trip costs and wilderness protection, specifically to help pass a new federal bill to expand wilderness areas in the Central Coast of California.
Total expenses for the trip is about $1,200.00, which includes all gas, food, equipment, resupply costs along the trail. I hope to raise $3,000 - half for the trip and half for wilderness. You can support me now or after the trip until September 1, 2014.
Teri Shore is an avid backpacker and wilderness advocate who has led Sierra Club backpack trips for the San Francisco Bay Chapter Backpack Section since 1996. I adore Yosemite, the Sierra Nevada and Trinity Alps. I've climbed Mt. Shasta and Mt. Whitney and many non-technical peaks. I also have a passion for the wilds and coast of Southwestern Australia and the Kimberley in the northwest, where I hiked the nine-day Lurrujarri Trail in 2013.
