7 Years running
Last year, the community came together and supported the efforts of the Garfinkel family to purchase a scoreboard in honor of Julie Garfinkel, whose 10 year fight against breast cancer came to a peaceful end on March 10, 2012. The scoreboard will forever serve as a permanent tribute to Julie on Field # 2 at the Northridge City Little League fields.

The balance of the funds raised in Julie’s honor were used to provide much needed improvements to Field # 7. So far, those funds (along with the help of some very dedicated individuals) have been used to purchase a new backstop, to construct a new score shack, install new baseboards, perform much needed tree trimming, and to provide signage for Field # 7 - which is now known as “Prospect Field.” Well, the field still needs a scoreboard, and the Garfinkel family has, once again, stepped up to the challenge.

A manually operated scoreboard – ala Fenway Park/Wrigley Field - will soon appear in the area right behind the wall in left center field. The scoreboard, which will be operated by our own little leaguers, will also be adorned with breast cancer awareness ribbons to perpetuate Julie’s legacy and her desire to educate as many people about this dreaded disease.

You can support the Garfinkel family’s effort by making a donation to the Julie Garfinkel Scoreboard Memorial (directly or via this website) or by purchasing raffle tickets. Raffle tickets are $5.00 each. The Garfinkel family has donated a 1953 Mickey Mantle baseball card, an Apple Ipad Mini, and Sandy Koufax lithograph signed by the artist, as raffle prizes. If this year’s raffle is anything like last year’s, there will be many other prizes available. You cannot purchase raffle tickets on this website.

The scoreboard will be revealed, and raffle prize winners announced, in a field dedication ceremony which will take place on May 18, 2013 – which would have been Julie’s 48th birthday. A special guest speaker will be announced later this month.

Thank you so much for your support. It means a great deal to the Garfinkel family. Questions should be directed to Gregg Garfinkel at
