Meet Bella. Sweet 10 year old yorkie. Diagnosed with encephalitis. She's been in the good hands of SEVNeurology recovering. Everyday I hope to take Bella home but she is still very sick and has to stay in hospital under observation

Bella's story begins when I noticed there were changes in her behavior. I took her to the vet in Scotland where I was living at the time. He informally diagnosed her with GME (inflammatory disease of the central nervous system) and put her on heavy doses of steroids to control the inflammation. For 6 months Bella fought against her condition by taking multiple medications. She showed small signs of improvement

However, she took a turn for the worst when i relocated home to Florida. Bella's condition deteriorated over the last few weeks. With a trip to the emergency vet, I was informed that i should get her to Southeast Veterinary Neurology in Miami

Following the consultation with Dr. De Pompa  at SEVNeurology he suggested that Bella would need an MRI and spinal tap. I had no option but to go ahead with it because she was in a lot of distress and had to be sedated to keep her calm

After the MRI Bella had 2 seizures which has never happened before. This is a symptom of her condition which we discovered to be Encephalitis

--Encephalitis is inflammation of the brain Certain breeds are more likely to be affected including Yorkies. Clinical signs depend on which part of the brain is infected but may include seizures, walking in circles, seeming of balance, stumbling, blindness or pain

Bella has been in intensive care for 5 nights. She is still critical and not walking or able to stand. She can eat and drink with assistance from the nurses

Bella will need ongoing treatments from here on out. She will be taking multiple medications and undergo treatments with chemotherapy medication every 2/3 weeks at a neurology facility

Your donations will go towards the medical costs of the MRI and spinal tap they will also be used to cover the care she is recieving at SEVNeurology

A donation of any size is appreciated to help my girl keep fighting!
