For nearly five years, organizers from Write Art Out have been
committed to literary projects and programs that enhance and engage
the local community. Every first and third Wednesday of each month,
The Blah Poetry Spot
has existed as a poetry open mic at
Deco Pizzeria
(1815 Fredericksburg rd). The Blah Poetry spot has been a
platform for local poets to share their works; held drives for
school supplies, clothes, food, and more; raised funds to send poets
to represent San Antonio at regional and national poetry
competitions; hosted writing workshops available to all ages;
mentored and sponsored
Fresh Ink Youth Slam
(San Antonio's only nationally recognized youth poetry slam);
created a residency for local poets; and collaborated with other
local nonprofit organizations, such as Haven for Hope Homeless
Shelter, the San Anto Cultural Arts, and the Guadalupe Cultural Arts.
Our Mission:
Write Art Out is dedicated to
collaborate, develop, and promote the literary endeavors of the San
Antonio community. The organization strongly supports the development
of communities through writing, performance, and engagement with a
strong artistic cooperative dynamic. Write Art Out is a charitable
arts group focusing on the education of literary arts in San Antonio.
We accept all members of the community regardless of religion,
education, sex, age, disability, sexual orientation, race, and/or
cultural background. Write Art Out seeks to promote a safe space for
its members to create works which encourage community development and progress.
Our Goals:
Future forward, Write Art Out would like to spread the literary arts
and humainites through special programs and events.
Write Art Out will continue to grow the Blah Poetry Spot by
securing a building and base of operations. This location will also
serve as headquarters for any writing workshops, after-school
programs, and special events.
Write Art Out would like to create a writing series dedicated to
former and active servicemen and women suffering from post traumatic
stress disorder.
Write Art Out will continue our poet in residiency program which
recognizes local area writers and builds connections between artists
and communities.
Write Art Out will continue to send poets out to local area
schools and nonprofits to work with young adults.
Write Art Out will continue to foster relationships and support
other poetry/literary groups, clubs, and organizations such as
PuroSlam Poetry, Fresh Ink Youth Slam, and others.
