Laura Miller hasn't added a story.
My name is Laura and most of you know me as Auntie Laura for Sophie's Village and one passionate person when it comes to dog rescue, which is what Sophie's Village stands for.
When we rescued Sophie, it was an uphill battle, but we managed to get her the surgery she needed and a wonderful mom and canine brother that love her with all their hearts. She had been broken and battered while languishing at Downey Animal Control. Sophie has a happy ending. It's what we work so hard for in dog rescue as an advocate. The happy ending for the dogs and families.
Our Brussels Griffon, Annie, was 11 years old. Spunky, fun, one of the girls, always loved a good car ride, definitely loved to sleep in late, even if it meant not eating breakfast. She was good with that, but Nana, (me), wasn't. So she was kept on a good schedule for eating because she had other things in mind for a good time.
Annie hated thunderstorms and found a hiding place under my bed where no one would see her. She was invisible you see and she was tiny, so in her world, you didn't see her. We used to laugh about that all the time.
On March 11th, 2016, Annie went to have her anal glands expressed. For some reason and we don't know why, Annie's anal glands started to fill up and had to be emptied every week over the last month and a half. We had her on a raw food diet, grain free food. She had her motility medicine for her colon/intestines to do their respective work, and quite sensitive in the digestive tract. That's why she had to be fed on a schedule so her tummy wouldn't get too empty.
The next morning, March 12th, 2016, Annie started vomiting, and then she began vomiting blood. We took her back to the vet and the vet told us she would give her Cerenia, give her IV fluids, and that the blood in the vomiting would stop, but it would probably push out her rear, and to expect it. She was optimisitic and said Annie needed to come back the next morning. No food, just meds every 8 hours.
That night we took shifts staying up with her. By 7:00 p.m. she was bleeding out her rear, so we bought doggie diapers to put on her. Annie didn't feel good about that. I got her a nice warm bath and at 9:00 p.m. took what would be the last picture of her as she rested in a comfy spot on my mom's afagan.
Over the next few hours, she wanted to rest in her little kennel with her blankie, and by 3:30 a.m., she was not doing well, diaper was filled with blood and she was seizing. We gave her CPR, and mouth to mouth, and we couldn't save her. It was horrible, horrific and we did everything we could for our little girl, but she passed right in my arms.
I couldn't believe it. I just couldn't believe it. I still can't. I didn't expect it, and didn't expect the sudden expenses that would come along with it. After all, she was healthy, right? Unexpected death of a beloved pet is hard to get over. I know she forever changed my life. I know she forever changed the lives of my children and my granddaughter. She loved big, just like we loved her big.
We have final expenses for Annie that we cannot afford and I am reaching out to the rescue community for help. We have enlisted Faithful Friends, located at 72 Buchi Court, Nashville, Tn 37204, (615) 403-8020 to handle Annie's final arrangements.
If anything over and above what we need for Annie to bring her home is donated, our family would like to make sure that we are able to donate to medical needs of dogs(s) at Carson and at Downey Animal Shelter's care.
Please help bring Annie home to us. This is where she belongs. Thank you.
