Teresa Johnson hasn't added a story.
In an answer to years of prayerful family huddles, our family was adopted in the summer of 2013 by the uniquely beautiful Cameron, a vivacious and loving six year old golden retriever mix with golden eyes and a freckled nose, who appeared with such serendipity as to provide a daily reminder that our heartfelt supplications to heaven truly are heard. She has added a layer of pure love to our little household that no one could possibly have foreseen. Even our elderly kitty is hooked!
Our beautiful golden Cameron was hit by a car on Easter Sunday, 2015, suffering significant injuries to one of her hind legs, along with road rash and shock. She was rushed to a local clinic, where by the grace of God the veterinarian happened to stop by just as we had realized it was closed. Cameron was stoic as she was examined, x-rayed, and put on IV fluids and pain medication overnight. We then transferred her to a veterinary hospital closer to home the next day. Upon examination of the damage, her doctors explained that it would be nearly impossible to successfully rehabilitate the mangled leg, as it was missing much of the bone, ligaments and tissue needed to even close the wound. To minimize the possibility of severe infection and maximize quality of life, it was decided that an amputation was best.
Cameron was in the hospital for four days in the best of care. She received wonderful, thorough treatment from the veterinary specialty hospital professionals and staff; we could not have wanted for more genuinely attentive, compassionate, or competent nursing and care. She is now at home, still recovering, slowly beginning to eat again and show signs of engagement. We are starting to see her tail thump a little. She is still reluctant, however, to try to stand or walk on her own, and still needs medication to manage the pain.
Cameron’s veterinary bills have exceeded $5,000. Because of her age, in addition to rehabilitation, she will likely require some type of orthopedic aid, along with other lifestyle adaptors such as a portable pet step. Please help her regain her joie de vivre and youthful energy! We want her to smile again.
