Introduction
Rinjani Dawn Adventures started its community projects program "Sasak Warriors" in the wake of the 2018 Lombok earthquakes. Raising money from generous customers, family and friends, we were able to assist with earthquake relief efforts in the area. Using our small truck we supplied the village with water, food and medical supplies. We built a logistics and aid post that was used my visiting medical teams, and worked with the village chief to ensure a fair allocation of aid. In the months that followed we completed 4 house building projects, as well as supplying materials to many of the village's poorest families.
We have a team of 25 "Sasak Warriors", who volunteer their time whenever we have a project. We hope to expand the Sasak Warriors program in the future "to alleviate poverty and enhance life". We will also be launching an educational project in the coming months.
House Building Project: Hamdan's Family
Hamdan with wife, Karninten, & son, Erik
Hamdan's simple family home
The house is made from a bamboo frame and asbestos roof. The floor is mud. There are only 2 rooms - a kitchen and a bedroom (mattress on the mud floor- no bed. The house is falling down due to the 2018 Lombok earthquakes, that rocked the island. Without your help Hamdan's family will struggle when the rainy season hits in the coming months.
Due to unfairness in the government system for earthquake relief aid, Hamdan's family was not offered any assistance for repairing their house following the earthquakes.
The house only has an outdoor toilet, which just consists of a bowl surrounded by asbestos sheeting.
Our Plan - Build Hamdan's family a simple but safe house!
Sketch-up of proposed design
Using money donated by Rinjani Dawn Adventures
trekking profits and kind donations, we hope to build Hamdan a 3 room
wood-framed house. It will have a metal roof, and indoor toilet. The
walls will be made from "Badek", a bamboo material that
keeps the house light and cool. We will also be ensuring there is a
window, so natural light can come into the living room. The most
important factor is that it is strong (earthquake resistant) and safe.
It will also have a decent concrete foundation.
How much we need to raise: $1500
We have estimated the total cost for the above house is $1500 USD. We have raised around $300 from trekking profits so far, which leaves $1200 to go! Any donation, no matter how big or small would be much appreciated, thankyou!
Thank you for helping!
