Hello,
You obviously don't know me. But I am a daughter of a single dad. He raised my brother and I all by himself. My whole life I have watched my father struggle to get by on little to no money with his hip disabiltity. To top it all off we lived in a cabin in the middle of the mountains. So the house is nearly falling apart. My dad had to do all of the repairs himself making the condition worse and putting him in more pain than ever. It is nearly 26 years that my dad has had to live with this ailment. I remember when I was younger I would hear him on the phone with people asking/ inquiring about hip replacement surgeries, asking about insurance, asking about MediCal health requirements. He was always left disappointed. I asked my dad once what he wanted to do for a job when he was younger. He said he had always wanted to be a park ranger. He had applied even with his disabilty and they denied him. This was before Clinton's Disability Act. He even wanted to be in the United Sates military like his father but couldn't join because of the disability. He lived vicariously through my brother and I as we have served as veteran in the US Army and Navy. I would always see the hope and want in his eyes, but felt hopeless knowing that I couldn't help him as a child. It wasn't until I volunteered to come and help fix up my dad's house with him that I realized it wasn't something I wanted to have him get done, but it was something way past needed. I watched him as we were moving things today off the porch, and I asked him, "Are you still looking at the different types of hip replacements?" and he said, "Oh, I gave up on that I long time ago." It brought tears to my eyes and knew that this was something I had to do for my dad, not tomorrow, but right now.. this second. My dad and I have always been proud people and he has always taught me to not ask anything of others. But in this instance, he is wrong. The community is the only place to turn to, the only place for support. I cannot do this alone. So, I decided not to tell my father that I am raising money for his hip replacement and will surprise with the check and video record the whole process! I cannot wait to see the look on his face, when I tell him that his dreams are not lost and that he is not alone. Please donate as much as you can, no donation is too small or too large. Thank you for your time and consideration. God bless.
