The Book Exchange is the longest continuously operating independent bookstore in Cobb County, and we need your help to keep it that way.
Over the past several months there has been a notable attempt to refresh and revitalize the store.
We have received some wonderful, positive feedback. But we are still a work in progress. In order to continue growing into the store we have envisioned, we need your help.
Symbols of community aren’t built like a building with frameworks and beams. They are created with teamwork, camaraderie, and heart.
The Book Exchange is just that. Our customers aren’t just buyers. You are friends, family, our people.
We are in a position of need to call on your generosity once again. Once upon a time, our biggest competitor was large, industrial bookstores. Then came along the world wide web, with online shopping whose prices are unsustainable for a small business to compete with. Across the state, independent stores are closing, being run out of business by larger competitors with umbrella companies who can compensate for the competitive pricing that indie businesses just can’t match.
Rather than raise prices to match competitors, or lower them to be the best bargain, we have always operated on a ‘keep things fair’ mentality. However, now that fair price just can’t beat the convenience of online sales and we need your help to keep the doors open.
By coming into the store and purchasing books, bookmarks, magnets, and other various items you are undeniably helping us. However, we are also fundraising to put the store in a position of security. Any financial contribution will help keep this woman owned, local community gem open.
But why us? Why help? Please understand that we don’t ask this lightly. It is a humbling experience to ask for assistance going into the new year. What we can say is this:
When you donate, you aren’t just donating to a store. You are supporting workers who provide for their families. You are supporting the various charity organizations we provide books to. You are supporting the people in your neighborhoods who come to one of our many free book clubs. You are supporting a senior mahjong group that meets at the store every Wednesday. You are supporting a bookshop where no child ever leaves without a book due to financial hardship.
