DEUTSCHE VERSION UNTEN
English:
Since I was young my only wish was to become a policewoman.
Wear a uniform, get acknowlegded and make the world a better place, even if it’s only a tiny little bit – this is the kind of person I want to be.
Within the past year I tried very hard to reach that goal of mine and I worked for it all the time. I started running every day to improve my stamina as well as a preparation for the physical education tests and so I managed to achieve the required sports badge. I also had to go through numerous medical tests as a consequence of the job requirements. A normal doctor, dentist, gynecologist (yes, they even require that) – and of course an oculist.
Most of the required tests aren’t paid by the regular health insurance, that I’m a member of, so I had to settle them on my own. Everything seems to work out perfectly – I am very fit, smart and I am at least not too small to work as a policewoman (1,60 meter).
Everything seems fine, except for my eyes. When I received a letter of germanys police application service, I thought they would notify me about the appointment for the physical ed test, but instead they let me know politely that I do not fulfill the required eyesight guidelines to become a policewoman.
Since I was a child I’ve always had glasses. When I cosplay I simply use contact lenses, but at the end of the day I take them out and can barely see. Just like a mole.
I am short-sighted.
-3,5 on the right and -3,25 on the left eye.
You may think „this is something someone can live with“ and I broadly approve.
But unfortunately it’s a handicap that restrains me from becoming a policewoman.
Everyone who ever got the door shut in their face knows this feeling. What you aim for is just within reach, you bothered for years – but in the end your dream seems to go up in smoke.
BUT!
I will not accept this.
To get rid of my bad eyesight I’m willing to get eye surgery. So I already made an appointment to run tests to check my suitability for eye surgery. In total the whole surgery will be around 3.500 – 4.900 Euro for both eyes and unfortunately won‘t be covered by the health insurance.
This whole thing is not only about my wish to become a policewoman but will also have benefits form e as a cosplayer. As mentioned, I wear contact lenses for cosplay. For a colored eye effect I wear another pair of lenses on top of those. So two lenses in one eye at the same time. Doing this often results in a massive headache. I do that, because colored lenses with prescription are often too soft in color and can’t cover my brown eyes. With the surgery, I will be no longer in need to wear this many contact lenses at the same time.
I am grateful for every little support – please help me make my dream come true!

Deutsch:
