In Canada, Shooting as a sport has been on a severe decline, and is in jeopardy of becoming extinct. A variety of factors have impacted our sport, resulting in the fact that Youth across Canada are not participating, leaving shooting clubs at risk. This is clear to anyone who shoots, as clubs are on the decline and membership average ages are skyrocketing.

One of the reasons that youth are not participating in Shooting is that this is an expensive sport. Youth need access to the equipment needed to participate in this sport; membership and entry fees; careful coaching and mentorship, as well as time to practice and participate in tournaments. Today, many youth need to juggle several part time jobs, just to support their schooling making the additional costs of Shooting out of reach.

As a young woman, I want to excel at this sport and I strive to be an example for other youth to participate in Shooting before it becomes extinct. For me to achieve these twin goals, I am appealing to you to help fund me as I need funds to train to be the best and to achieve Olympic level by 2019. This is only 2 years away, and if I qualify, I will need funds to participate in the 2020 Olympics in Tokyo, Japan.

Only 2 years ago, Samantha Young started this sport while touring the VGC and discovered that she was a natural shooter, scoring 21/25 on her first day. Since then, she has won the Top Junior Award in the 2015 British Columbia (BC) Pacific International Trapshooting Association (PITA) Trapshooting Provincials, 2nd place overall in the Handicap Sector in the 2016 BC PITA Trapshooting Provincials (rivaling lifelong shooters), and a series of other, smaller awards. Thus far, her highest score is 94/100 targets (for non-shooters, this means that Samantha hit 94 of 100 targets in one shoot).

This year, Samantha has won the Top Ladies Award and Runner Up to First in the Handicap sector in the 2017 BC PITA Trapshooting Provincials.

Sam is now going to the 2017 Nationals in Edmonton, and hopes to get National recognition for her shooting skills. She is also seeking funds to continue her training towards the Olympics.

To achieve this, Samantha needs your support. She hopes that her hard work and success will lead to the rejuvenation of this important sport. The Funds will go towards tournament entry, equipment costs, and training sessions.

Please join others who have given so generously to Samantha on her journey. Any amount is appreciated and will be used solely for Samantha's goal to rejuvenate this sport towards the 2020 Japan Olympics!
