Adinkra symbols are functional shrines-in-miniature with the capacity to draw down and sustain the tumi (Divine power) of the Abosom and Nananom Nsamanfo (Deities and Ancestral Spirits) for divination, communication, healing and more. This is similar to the use of veves in Vodoun. Indeed, some veves in Vodoun include adinkra symbols. In Hoodoo - Akan Ancestral Religion in North america - this tradition has been maintained.
