Mikyia mo (Greetings), We received a message today from a sista who was trying to raise $300 today to avoid homelessness for her and her 4 children. We suggested that the sista start a fundrazr.com campaign because it may be easier to raise $30 from 10 people in a short time. Her deadline is tonight. She has raised about $200 and is working on the last $100. We were reminded why we began the Odwiraman Foundation fundraising campaign. Because of the assistance of the community over the past year we were able to raise $1630 for one sista and her children for an emergency housing expense; $545 for a sista and her daughter because of an emergency medical expense which caused the sista to have to miss work; and also $190 for an emergency school tuition expense which came about because of a car accident involving children which the sista had to attend to and use her school money in the process. These sistas were very appreciative of the community stepping in - most of whom never met these sistas in person. This is community in action. We had been focused on other activities and had not focused on the Odwiraman Foundation work lately. The sista's outreach to us made us refocus. For those who can contribute today please do so.
