[ENG]

Hi! We are Filipa and Nuno, two  kenshi  from Porto, Portugal.
We have been studying Kendo for some time now (8 and 10 years) and we have recently passed our Yondan exam. In addition to being a milestone that we are proud of, this is also an added responsability in our duties to our dojo,  Kendo Clube do Porto .
Fun fact about us: we met in a Kendo seminar and have been together for 6 years now.
Nuno and Filipa - after Yondan exam

Our project and objectives

In January 2023 we will be going to Japan for three weeks, crossing the country to study Kendo in different dojos and under high-ranking Sensei. We aim to further our relations with Japan and learn as much as we can so we can return to our home town and share what we’ve absorved and contribute to the development of Kendo in Porto and in Portugal.
This trip to Japan is a big undertaking, but a small part of our overall commitment to Kendo: every year we try to travel and attend seminars, training camps and competitions. Kendo is a very big part of our lives.

How can you support us?

We are producing awesome Kendo related goodies: a fine 100g cotton tote bag, printed in Portugal, and a tenugui, traditionally made in Japan. Get one of these and you will be helping us on our journey – and we are deeply thankful for this help!
If you would like to reach out and support us in any other way, please contact us.

What will you be contributing to?

All of this trip is being financed with our savings and wages, as we don’t have any financial support from any organization or group.
With this iniciative we are trying to offset some of the costs of this journey, with our goal set on trying to buy two JapanRailways Passes (in excess of 400€ per person). We hope our goodies will get us there.

Kendo Cycle Tote Bag
€8 Suggested + shipping
Ships Worldwide

Kendo – beer – sleep – repeat.
It is not mandatory but it is a routine that is universally acknowledged: after a hard Kendo session there’s nothing like a cold beer! As for sleep, well…let’s just say that  nomikai have to end sometime before  asageiko, right? Right…?
Our tote bag is made in Portugal from 140g fine cotton, with double-sided printing. The other side displays the Porto logo, a legacy from Porto’s old coat of arms, a black dragon on top of the duchal crown. A flowing sash on the dragon’s neck reads INVICTA – undefeated – a title bestowed upon the city for it’s unwavering fighting spirit.
38cm wide and 42cm in depth, this bag is perfect to show your Kendo life to the world and stylishly transporting your neatly-folded hakama (or just for grocery shopping).

Kendo – Cerveja – Dormir – Repetir

Wave Tenugui
€13 Suggested + shipping
Ships Worldwide
Estimated delivery Feb 2023

Kokenchiai
Frequently translated as  “We learn love by crossing swords together” , this Kendo saying sums one of the most noble aspects of our practice. The waves are symbolic of our city – Porto, a city molded by its relationship with the sea and river – and also of the connection of the Portuguese to Japan. The logo on this design is a legacy from Porto’s old coat of arms, a black dragon on top of the duke's crown.
This tenugui is being made in Japan, following the traditional method.

Final design (details arising from traditional manufacture) may vary from pictured (a mockup from the design)
